EAZY-PEAZY BABY HAT

This is a very simple and cute hat for baby that knits up quickly and goes well with my Eazy-Peazy Cardigan. It avoids all sewing! It knits up nicely using variegated yarns but looks lovely in a plain color as well. Size: Fits 6-12 months Materials: Medium worsted-weight yarn . Any easy-care (preferably washable) yarn that can obtain gauge, US size 7 double pointed needles (or size to obtain gauge). 1 stitch/row marker. Gauge: In stickinette stitch, 20 stitches X 24 rows =4" (5"/inch)
PATTERN
Cast on 76 stitches evenly on 3 of 4 double pointed needles. Join, then work stockinette stitch (K every row) in the round for 2.5 inches. Switch to 1x1 rib for 1.5 inches. Add 1 stitch at the beginning of the next round (77 stitches) and place a marker to mark the beginning of the round. Return to stockinette stich (K every row) for the next 5.5 inches. Begin decreases: \*K5, K2tog\* to end of round (66 stitches). Knit one round. \*K4, K2tog\* to end of round (55 stitches). Knit one round. \*K3, K2tog\* to end of round (44 stitches). Knit one round. \*K2, K2tog\* to end of round (33 stitches). Knit one round. \*K1, K2tog\* for 1 round (22 stitches). Knit one round. K2tog for next 2 rounds (11, then 6 stitches). Make I-cord topping: Slip the 6 stitches on to 1 needle. K2 tog 3 times (3). K 3 but DO NOT turn needle, slip the stitches to the other end of the needle and pulling firmly on your working yarn, continue knitting each row until the I-cord reaches the desired length (approximately 6 inches allows you to put a couple of cute knots near the end). Break yarn and using a tapestry needle, thread the yarn through the remainding stitches and then down through the center of the I-cord.
FINISHING:
Weave in your ends. Add any button decorations if desired. Block/steam.
