Handkerchief Style Easy Peazy Shawl Modification

by Margaret Thompson and Lynne Hannmann This a modification of Megan Delorme's Easy Peazy Scarf/Shawlette (pattern page: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/easy-peazy-scarf-., Essentially each row of the original pattern is worked twice to get a square that drapes like a handkerchief hem. The pattern was envisioned by Margaret K. L. Thompson (Ravelry name: mklthompson) and written up by Lynne Hannmann (Ravelry name: Cindydog) and Margaret. It's helpful, when making this project, to be familiar with the Delorme's original pattern. Gauge is not important, as long as you like how the project looks. Feel free to experiment with yarn and needle sizes to get the look you want. Materials: 2 skeins lace weight yarn (each skein should be \~390 m/50 g), Size 3 US (3.25 mm) circular needle (at least 24" long), 6 markers, yarn needle Cast on 5 sts. using a right-side cast-on method. Row 1 (RS): K2, YO, K1, YO, K2. (7 sts) -Purl PM-Place Marker RS-Right Side SM-slip marker sts-stitches YO-Yarn Over Row 2: K2, P3, K2. Row 3: Pattern Set-up Row K2, YO, PM, K1, PM, YO, PM, K1, PM, YO, PM, K1, PM, YO, K2. (11 stsS) Row 4: K2, P to last 2 sts, K2.

Stockinette Pattern

Row 1: K2, YO, Kto M, YO, SM, K1, SM, YO, K to M, YO, SM, K1, SM, YO, K to M, YO, SM, K1, SM, YO, K to last 2 sts., YO, K2. (first time through this = 19 sts) Row 2: K2, P to last 2 sts., K2. Repeat Rows 1 and 2, three times for a total of 8 rows of stockinette.

Lace Pattern (Lattice)

Row 1: K2 [YO, \*(K2tog, YO)\*, repeat \*to\* until 1 st. before M, K1, YO, SM, K1, SM, YO, K1, \*\*(YO, SSK)\*\*, repeat \*\* to \*\* to M, YO, SM, K1, SM], repeat [J, YO, K2. Repeat Rows 1 and 2, two times for a total of 3 lattice patterns Continue pattern as established, alternating Stockinette Pattern and Lace Pattern 8 more times for a total of 9 Stockinette Pattern and Lace Patterns worked total. Next: Work Stockinette Pattern 4 times for a total of 8 rows worked. Then: Work Lace Pattern 9 times for a total of 18 rows worked. End with Rolled edge as follows: P 1 row, K 1 row, P 1 row. Bind off Purl wise loosely. If bind off is too tight Rolled edge will be tight and will not curl properly. Weave in loose ends. Block shawl.
