Tension
Over pattern using 4mm needles, 10cm/4" = 32 sts & 36 rows 1 pattern repeat of 16sts. = 5cm/2" Abbreviations & Key moss - moss stitch - k the p st & p the K st. 一P - Purl口K - Knit Left leaning decrease - I did SSK, but Slip 1, K1, PSSO works too. Change to 4.00mm needles and knit the 2 'set-up' rows - Row 16 - (RS facing) k1, p1, (k4, p2tog, k2, moss 6, k2, p2tog) 17 times, k4, p1, k1. Row 17 - k2, p4, (k1, p2, moss 6, p2, k1, p4) 17 times, k2. 278 sts. Continue with Aran pattern from Chart A, Row 1 BUT - remember to work the first and last 2 stitches as set which are not written into the Aran Pattern directions. Continue in pattern until work measures 41cm, finishing on row 16 of pattern. Underarm - wrong side (even) row - Pattern 63, cast off 18, pattern 117, cast off 18, pattern 62. (63 + 118 + 63 sts) Start with the Right Front 63sts - (Chart assumes row 17) Continue with Chart B, in pattern as set, until work measures 15 cm from underarm, working st nearest underarm as k on every row.
Allover Cable Cardigan - written pattern
Neck shaping (Chart assumes row 36) - Put 14 sts onto a pin at front edge. Decrease this end alternate rows until 40 sts remain. Continue straight until work measures 22 cm from underarm Starting at shoulder end cast off 10 sts each alternate row 4 times Back - Pattern on these 118 sts, following chart A, until work measures 22 cm from underarm. Cast off 10 sts every row 8 times = 30 sts left. Cast off. Left Front - As right front, reversing the shaping. See Chart C Bands - sew up both shoulder seams. Left band - cast on 19sts. Row 1 - k1, p4, (k2, p4) x 2, k2. (wrong side) Row 2 -k1, p1, (C4B, p2) x 2, C4B, k1. Row 3 - k1, p4, (k2, p4) x 2, k2. Row 4 - k1, p1, (k4, p2) x 2, k4, k1. Repeat till length matches front ending with a 3rd row. Right band - cast on 19sts. Row 1 - k2, (p4, k2) x 2, p4, k1. (wrong side) Row 2 - k1, (C4B, p2) x 2, C4B, p1, k1. Row 3 - k2, p4, k2, p2tog, yfwd. loosely, p2, k2, p4, k1. Row 4 - k1, (k4, p2) x 2, k4, p1, k1. Repeat 8 times knitting the 3rd row same as 1st row. Next repeat knit buttonhole as written for 3rd row. Continue till length matches front ending with a 3'd row in the 3'd repeat from last buttonhole. Do not break yarn. Sew on front bands. Neck band - Continue with 4"h row of Edging Pattern across 18sts on right front band, p2tog with first stitch of front, continue to purl across remaining 13 sts of front, pick up & purl 25 sts along side, knit 30 sts across back, pick up 25 sts along other side, knit 13 sts of Left Front, purl last stitch together with first stitch of Left Band, pattern remaining 18sts from left band. 144 sts, 24 cables.
Pattern -
Row 1 - k1, p4, (k2, p4) x 23, k1. (wrong side) Row 2 -k1, (C4B, p2) x 23, C4B, k1. Row 3 -k1, p4, (k2, p4) x 23, k1. Row 4 - k1, (k4, p2) x 23, k5. Repeat this pattern until 3 cable rows are knitted. Or - until 4 cable rows are knitted for a high neck. Make a buttonhole as before after this row. Pattern 3 more rows, then cast off firmly.
Sleeves
On 3.25mm needles cast on 56 sts. Following Chart D, repeat band as for bodice for 14 rows. Row 15 - (as row 3 band pattern) increase 12 sts. across row. 68 sts. Change to 4.00mm needles and start the Aran pattern, following the last 2 rows of Chart D. Continue with sleeve charts E & F until 112sts. Continue straight until side seam measures 51cm (20 %4") or length desired. (Note there is an extra 7cm for armhole). Sew up sleeve seam leaving 7cm to be sewn onto underarm of the bodice. Set in sleeves.
