Take Measurements
Accurate measurements are key to achieve the Kindling & Tinder fit. If you are making the sweater for yourself, have someone help you take the measurements to ensure the correct fit for your body. To determine chest size, take wearer's measurement shirtless or with a closefitting undershirt. To determine the appropriate length, take wearer's measurement from under armpit to lower hip (approximately 4 inches below the natural waist). To achieve the fit as pictured, this is the measurement between the top of the ribbing and armpit bind off. For instance: ifthe wearer's armpit-to-hip measurement is $\bar{\mathrm{I}}6\,\,^{1}\!/\!_{2}$ inches, the sweater will need to be 20 inches long from the bottom of the sweater to the armpit bind off. To determine the armscye (armhole circumference), place measuring tape at the top of the shoulder and run tape under armpit and over clavicle to the top of the shoulder. A few caveats: 1) Stand up straight with good posture, but keep shoulder and arm relaxed. 2) Pull measuring tape tightly. Ifthis procedure is mildly uncomfortable, you're probably doing it correctly. To determine arm length, measure the inside of the arm from the armpit to the wrist and add 2 inches.
Prepare Yarn
Using ball winder, wind yarn into manageable 4-ply balls as follows: Wind one ply from cone on to ball winder. Stop when ball is about 2 inches thick. Remove ball from winder and place level with cone. Take one ply from the cone and one from the ball and rewind the ball. Remove ball from winder again and place level with cone. Take one ply from the cone and two plies from the ball and wind again. Take one ply from the cone and three plies from the ball and wind again. Yarn is ready to knit.
Method
Front
With US6 needles, CO 120 (124, 132, 136) sts using long-tail method. Work $3^{1}\!/\!_{2}$ inches in Ix1 (k1, p1) rib. Working in St st, decrease 22 (20, 22, 20) sts evenly across next row as follows: $\mathbf{k}2$ , $^{*}\mathbf{k}_{2}$ tog, $\mathbf{k}4$ , repeat from \* 20 times, k2tog, end k2. 98 (104, I10, 116) sts remain. Work in St St for the length you have determined through the sizing instructions above, ending with wrong side row.
Armscye Shaping
Bind off 5 (5, 6, 6) sts at beginning of next 2 rows, ending with wrong side row. Decrease I St at beginning of each alternate row 4 (5, 5, 6) times, 3 sts from edge. To create full-fashioned shaping, k2tbl on right side rows and p2tog on wrong side rows. Work remaining 8o (84, 88, 92) sts until work measures 2" less than half of wearer's armscye measurement, ending with a wrong side row.
Neck Shaping
Left Side
Work from armscye edge across 32 (34, 36, 38) sts. Slip center remaining Sts on holder. Next row: P2, P2tbl, pI, p2tbl, P remaining sts. Knit next row plain. On each wrong side row, P2, P2tbl, pl, p2tbl, P remaining Sts. until 26 (28, 30, 32) sts.remain. Continue in St st until armscye measures desired depth (half ofwearer's armscye measurement), ending with right side row.
Short-row Shoulder Shaping
Work12 (13, 14, 15) ts, wrap the next st and turn work. Knit to neck edge. BO all titches on wrong side, picking up and hiding the wrapped st.
Right Side
Leave center 16 sts on holder. Slip 32 (34, 36, 38) from holder on to needle. Join yarn at inside neck edge and work I row plain. Continue in St st until armscye measures desired depth (half of wearer's armscye measurement), ending with a wrong side row.
Short-row Shoulder Shaping
Work 12 (13, 14, 15) ts, wrap the next st and turn work. Purl to neck edge. BO all stitches on right side, picking up and hiding the wrapped st.
Back
Work same as front, omiting neck shaping until armscye measures desired depth (half of wearer's armscye measurement), ending with wrong side row. There are 8o (84, 88, 92) sts on the needle.
Short-row Shoulder Shaping
Work next row for 66 (69,72, 75) sts, wrap the next St and turn the work, leaving 13 (14, 15, 16) unworked sts at armscye edge on the needle. P across 52 (54, 56, 58) sts, wrap the next st and turn the work, leaving 13 (14, 15, 16) unworked sts on the needle at the opposite armscye edge. Turn work. K across 38 (39, 40, 41) sts, wrap and turn work, leaving 26 (28, 30, 32) unworked sts on needle. P across 24 (24, 24, 24) sts; wrap the next St, leaving 26 (28, 30, 32) unworked sts on needle. End short row shaping with a total of 28 live center Sts. Break yarn. Slip alllive Sts on to one needle. Join new yarn and BO 26 (28, 30, 32) sts at beginning of next two rows, picking up and hiding the wrapped Sts. Slip remaining 28 live center sts on holder.
Sleeves
With US6 needles, CO 42 (44, 46, 48) Sts using long-tail method. Work $3^{1}\!/\!_{2}$ inches in Ix1 (kI, p1) rib. Work in St st, increasing I St at both ends of one row every inch, 2 sts from edge until there are 76 (8o, 82, 84) sts on the needle. Work even until sleeve is the length ofthe arm measurement as described in the sizing instructions.

Finishing
Weave in all ends for all joins in body and sleeves.
Wet Blocking
Wash all pieces gently in mild detergent, Do not wring or agitate. Squeeze out excess water, then roll in towels to remove remaining water. Block on flat surface to finished measurements and let dry completely.

Shoulder Seams
Sew front and back pieces together at shoulder.
Set-in Sleeves
Pin the center ofthe sleeve cap to the shoulder seam. Pin the corresponding bound-off armscye Stitches to bound-off stitches at sleeve cap edge. Continue pinning armscye and sleeve-cap edges, adjusting ease as needed. Sew sleeve in place.
Side and Sleeve Seams
Secure edges with safety pins. Begin seams using long tail ends from cast-on rows. Complete seams using mattress stitch method, inserting tapestry needle under the corresponding horizontal bars between Stitches, alternating from side-to-side and pulling yarn tight enough to hide edges. Working from hip edge to armscye and from sleeve edge is recommended.
Turtleneck

including Sts on holders. Work in Ix1 (1k, p1) rib for 6 to 8 inches (or desired length) according to wearer's preference. Bind off using backstitch (or "cast-on, cast-off") technique. Cut yarn approximately four times longer than the circumference of the turtleneck and thread through a tapestry needle. Insert tapestry needle purlwise through first two stitches on knitting needle and pull yarn through. Insert tapestry needle purlwise through first sStitch again. Pull yarn through and drop bound-off Stitch from knitting needle. BO all sts in this fashion. Ensure that bind off tension matches that of live Stitches to maintain flexible edge.
Caring for your sweater
Hand wash in cold water with gentle soap or wool wash. Do not wring or agitate. Squeeze out excess water, then roll in towels to remove remaining water. Lay garment flat to dry out of direct sunlight and shape to original measurements.
