Cabled Cowl

This cowl is a very quick knit, only taking 3-4 hours, it is perfect for beginners wanting to tackle their first cables or for the more experienced knitter who is after an instant gratification knit or a quick gift. It knits up to a soft snuggly cowl highlighted with some statement buttons. Yarn: 160 yards/147m of worsted weight/10ply yarn (sample used Dream in Color Calm in Grey Tabby) Extras: 3 large buttons (1" or bigger) Needles: 7mm needles, cable needle Measurements: 20"/50cm x 6.5"/16.5cm Tension: 15sts x 16rows over 4"/10cm in stocking stitch after blocking
Abbreviations:
C4B: Place 2 sts on cable needle, hold to back, knit 2 sts from the left-hand needle, knit 2 sts from the cable needle. C4F: Place 2 sts on cable needle, hold to front, knit 2 sts from the left-hand needle, knit 2 sts from the cable needle. C10B: Place 5 sts on cable needle, hold to back, knit 5 sts from the left-hand needle, knit 5 sts from the cable needle. C10F: Place 5 sts on cable needle, hold to front, knit 5 sts from the left-hand needle, knit 5 sts from the cable needle.
Working Pattern
Using 7mm needles cast on 40 sts. Row 1: knit Row 2: purl Row 3: C4F 10 times Row 4-10: beginning with a purl row work 7 rows stocking stitch. Row 11: [C10F, C10B] twice Rows 12-20: beginning with a purl row work 9 rows stocking stitch. Row 21: C10F, k20, C10B Rows 22-30: beginning with a purl row work 9 rows stocking stitch Row 31: C10F twice, C10B twice Rows 32-40: beginning with a purl row work 9 rows stocking stitch. Rows 41-101: Repeat rows 11-40 twice more, then Row 11 once. Rows 102-104: beginning with a purl row work 3 rows stocking stitch. Row 105: k9, yo, k2tog, [k8, yo, k2tog] twice, k9 Rows 106-108: beginning with a purl row work 3 rows stocking stitch. Row 109: C4B 10 times. Row 110: purl Cast off loosely. Sew buttons to cast on end of cowl, sew in ends and block.
