The bead instructions are given in italics in the main lace pattern below. At first read, they may sound strange, but after a few sections you'll see the pattern and know when to slide a bead up from the ball and into the working piece. Using US 5 needles, CO 14 stitches and make 14 picots (28 sts total) using the following methods: Cable Cast On - Make a slip knot, place it on the left needle. Knit this as a stitch, without dropping the loop on the left needle, place the new stitch on the left needle by turning the stitch clockwise so the front of the loop becomes the back and slipping it onto the needle. Now, you have two stitches on the left needle. Place your right needle between the two stitches, and continue as if to knit placing this third stitch on the left needle by bringing it to the needle tip, twisting it clockwise so the front of the loop becomes the back and slipping it onto the left needle. Making a picot - With three stitches on needle, \*knit two stitches and bind off the second knit stitch (one small picot made). Place remaining stitch on right needle as if to purl, cast on two stitches using the Cable Cast On method above. Repeat from \* until you have 14 stitches/picots. Now, knit the first stitch on the left needle. Pick up the loop (or yarn bar) on top of the picot and purl the new stitch. Continue the k1, pick up and p1 pattern until you have 28 stitches on the needle. Begin pattern stitch below!
