Difficulty - Advanced Beginner
Divide yarn into two balls, or work from the inside and outside of a center-pull ball. You will make two identical pieces and join them invisibly with Kitchener Stitch. After knitting the ruffles for each end, you can put both halves on one circular needle and work simultaneously to desired length, or work one side at a time, keeping both sides about the same length. (It isn't critical that they be exact, since your join will be invisible.) Directions: With first ball of yarn, CO 80 stitches. Work in st st for 6 rows, or desired length\* Row 7: K 2 tog across row. Row 8: P 2 tog across row. Row 9: K Row10:P On second circular needle, cast on 80 stitches. Work Rows 1-8 as above. Work an additional 8 rows in st st. \*Note: You can vary the length of the ruffles if you prefer. if you add extra rows before Row 7 above, be sure to add the same number of extra rows to this ruffle. With right sides facing, place the needle holding the shorter ruffle on top of the needle holding the longer ruffle. Knit the first stitch of each needle together. Repeat across row. Place on stitch holder, and begin second set of double ruffles in same manner. When scarf halves are desired length, join using Kitchener Stitch.
Notes:
I didn't block the scarf because I liked the way it rolled on itself. If you prefer, block the entire scarf, or just above the ruffles to give the ruffles more definition. One skein of Merci has approx 328 yards. In the pictured version of the scarf, I used most of one skein to show how long the scarf could be. You may prefer less length.
