CAP'N CRUNCH Jennifer Adams for NUTTYIRISHMANKNITS

We all need stash busting projects, sometimes just to keep our Mojo mouing on those bigger knits! We also need last minute Christmas gifts as well. Cap'n Crunch is a bit of both. I wrote this pattern foruse at our yarn shop Twist, and our celebrationof Christmas in July."From beginning to end this basket weave pidge took me 3 hours to knit. And while struggling for a catchy name my husband walked in and declared, “that looks like a bowl of Cap'n Crunch! I'm hungry." So, there you go! Materials Checklist: Yarn Sugested: skein Manos Del Uruguay Pure Wool Worsted or Malabrigo Merino Worsted, doubled Yarn Used: 1 skein, Manos, $\#40$ colorway, Goldenrod US size 10 straight needles or circulars of same size tapestry needle 2 extra-large buttons Gauge: 3 stitches per inch Finished Measurements: (adult small) 22 inches by 6.5 inches Note: this pidge gains a lot oflength during blocking. The finished measurements are POST blocking,so keep that inmind.Ifyou want a longerpidge simply omit 4 or8 stitches from the basket weave pattern. Also,if using Manos del ruguay, blocking is amust. I soaked mine n wool wash for ouer an hour (I accidentally forgot about i.) and there is also the option of soaking in conditioner as well for Manos. Just don't forget to rinse! You will slip the first stitch of every row, both Right and Wrong Sides. Whenfinished, the Right Side of your pidge should faceup, toward yourchin.TheWrong Side should face down, toward yourjacket. Basket Weave repeat: (the slipped first stitch should correspond with the stitch if you were knitting it, so slip Knitwise for knit stitches and Purlwise for purl stitches.) Rows 1 and 2: Sl 1, K 1, P 2, $^{*}\mathbf{K}$ 2, P 2; repeat from \* to end of row. Rows 3 and 4: Sl 1, P 1, K 2, ${\bf\nabla}^{*}{\bf P}$ 2, K 2; repeat from \* to end of row.
To begin Pidge:

Button Hole Row: Sl 1 knitwise, K1, P 2, YO, k 2 tog, work basket weave pattern across row to last 6 stitches, YO, k2 tog, P 2, K 2. Continue next Wrong Side Row of pattern as written and continue pattern until you run out of yarn or knit measures 2o inches. Weave in ends and block piece to desired length. Attach buttons and find some tissue paper. Wrap that baby up and give yourselfa high five for finishing a Christmas gif, in July!
