Abbreviations
() - repeat what is between the parentheses as many times as indicated CC - contrasting color CO - cast on k- knit MC - main color pm - place marker rnd(s) - round(s) rem - remaining st(s) - stitch(es) Notes This cowl is covered in lots of tiny hearts just waiting to warm you with their love! This pattern involves stranded colorwork. When you are a colorwork row, let the yarn you are not currently using hang in the back of the work. When it comes time to use that color again, don't pull too tightly! This pattern also involves a provisional cast-on and kitchener grafting. If you are new to the provisional cast-on or kitchener grafting techniques, I used these tutorials: Provisional cast-on with a crochet chain: http://www.knitpicks.com/tutorials/Crochete d_Provisional_Cast_On__D17.html Provisional cast-on without a crochet chain: http://www.knittinghelp.com/video/play/invi sible-provisional-cast-on Kitchener stitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17jlzw05 Nv4
Directions
Using MC and your preferred method, provisionally CO 84, place marker and join in the round. Rnd 1-3: k all sts in MC 4: k1 in MC, (k1 in CC, k5 in MC) repeat until 5 sts rem, k4 in MC 5-9: k all sts in MC 10: k4 in MC, (k1 in CC, k5 in MC) repeat until 2 sts rem, k1 in CC, k1 in MC 11- 15: k all sts in MC When changing colors, I like to put my finger between the yarn I'm picking back up and the work while knitting the first stitch of the new color. It keeps the "carry" from being too tight and lets the knitting breathe a little! Repeat Rnds 4-15 for 28 inches. Repeat Rnds 4-11. Undo the provisional cast-on and slip the resulting live sts onto a needle. Kitchener graft the ends together with MC. Weave in ends and block gently. Enjoy!
