Stars Flower & Stripes Doily Measures 14 - 15 inches
June 2014--S. Strand revised 6.15.2014 I've made two models of this doily and they measure 14 to 15 inches across. The one that uses size 5 thread is a thicker table decoration. The one that uses size 10 is more lacy delicate. For 6-8 inch doily, work through round 13 and finish off. Supplies: Crochet Thread. White Cotton Thread Size #5, Bright Red Pearl #5, Navy Blue Pearl cotton #8 (doubled) Steel hook #3 1.85 mm OR Size 10 crochet cotton in red, white, blue Steel hook #6 Stitch Notes: 3-dc Shell: 3 dcs, ch 3, 3 dcs in same space or stitch. 2-dc Shell: 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in same space or stitch. For first shell of each round, substitute ch 3 for first dc. Finishing: Use a tapestry need to weave in loose threads.
RED
Rnd 1: With Red, Chain 3 (counts as first hdc) Make 7hdc in beg chain. Sl st to join. Rnd 2: Chain 3. Dc in st. ch2. (2 dc in next stitch, chain 2) around. Sl st to join. Rnd 3: Sc in joining. Chain 6. (Sk ch 2 space. Sc in space between 2 dcs, chain 6) Around, except change last one to chain 3 + tr in beginning sc to join. Rnd 4: Ch 2, 3 hdc in loop. Ch1. (In next loop make 8 hdc + ch1) around. End with 4 hdc in last loop. Join. 8 loops with 8 hdc in each loop.Finish off.
WHITE
Rnd 5: Join White with sl st in any chain1 space on round 4. Sc in ch 1 space. (Ch 10. Sc in next space) Repeat around. Except last repeat change to chain 6 and DTR in first st to join. Rnd 6: Ch 2. 5 hdc in first loop. Ch 1. (In next loop, make 12 hdc in loop + ch 1) repeat around, except last repeat change to 6 hdc in first loop. Sl st to join. Fasten off. NAVY BLUE (double strands of #8 pearl cotton or one strand of size 10) Rnd Z: Join Navy blue with sl st in ch 1 space. (Chain 12 + hdc in next ch 1 space) repeat around Except change last repeat to ch 6 + tr in beg to form last loop. Rnd 8: Ch 2 (counts as hdc) Make 6 hdc in loop. Ch2. (In next loop make 12 hdc in loop {Arch made} + ch 2) repeat around, changing last repeat to 6 hdc in first loop. Sl st to join. Rnd 9: Ch 3 + make 2 dcs in same place as joining. {half shell made} Chain 4 + hdc in ch2 space + Ch 4. (In top of next Arch make 3 dc shell. Chain 4. Make hdc in ch 2 space, Ch 4) repeat around, changing last repeat to 3 dcs in first arch. Ch 3 sl st to join. 8 shells. Finish off.
RED:
Rnd 10: Join Red in any chain 3 space. In same space make ch 3 + 2 dcs. Dc in each of the next 3 sts. Ch 3 + hdc in hdc + Ch 3. Make dc in each of next 3 sts. (Make 3 dc shell in shell space. Dc in each of next 3 sts. Ch 3. Hdc in hdc, ch 3. Make dc in each of next 3 sts.) Repeat around. On last repeat make 3 more dcs in first space + Ch 3 beg to join. Finish off.
WHITE
Rnd 11: Join white with sl st in ch 3 loop between shells. In same loop make ch 3 +dc + Ch 3 + 2dc {2-dc shell}. (Dc in space between next 2 dc) 5 times. Ch 2, hdc in hdc. Ch 2. [Dc in next space between 2dcs-5 times. In ch 3 space make 2-dc shell, dc in space between 2dcs five times. Ch 2, hdc in hdc, Ch 2] Repeat around. Dc in next space between 2dcs - 5 times. Sl st to join. Rnd 12: Ch 3, dc in next dc. In space, make 2-dc shell. Dc in each of next 7 sts. Ch 2 hdc in hdc ch 2. (Dc in next 7 sts. In space make 2-dc shell. Dc in next 7 sts. Ch 2 hdc in hdc. Ch 2) Repeat around, ending with dc in next 5 sts. Sl st to join. Finish off.
RED
Rnd 13: Join red in any ch 3 space. Make beginning 2-dc shell. Dc in each of next 6 sts. Ch 4. Sk 3 dcs and make hdc in hdc. Ch 4. Sk 3 sts. Make dc in each of next 6 sts. (Make 2- dc shell in space. Dc in next 6 sts. Ch 4. Sk 3 sts and ch 2 space, make hdc in hdc + ch 4. Sk 3 sts. Make dc in each of next 6 sts) repeat around. Join with sl st to beg. Finish off.
NAVY BLUE
