Contrapposto
Contrapposto is an artistic term, meaning to represent freedom of movement within a figure, as in ancient Greek sculpture, the parts being in asymmetrical relationship to one another, usually where the hips and legs twist in one direction, and the chest and shoulders in another. With this sock's unusual design process and fluid lines wrapping around the leg and slithering over the foot, itseemed tofitwell. Materials: One skein of Hazel Knits Artisan Sock Two 24" circular 2.25 mm needles, or size needed to obtain gauge stitch markers (optional) tapestry needle Size: woman's small (medium, large) Gauge: 8 stitches and 11 rows per inch in stockinette Notes: A round is the entire 64 (68, 72) stitches around the sock, and a row is the 32 (34, 36) stitches on oneneedle. Needle #1 holds the instep stitches, and needle #2 holds the heel stitches, which turn into the sole of thefoot. Two sets of Charts A and C are given, for mirror images of the front leg pattern. ●SIZING: The rib is the only place to adjust the height of the leg. After the rib, there are 80 rows in the leg, which will be approximately 7.25" (at a gauge of 11 RPI).
