How to knit on a bead:
1) Knit stitch to be beaded (it will be on the right hand needle). 2) Impale the bead onto a crochet hook small enough to fit through the hole of your bead. 3) Slip the stitch to be beaded off the needle and onto the crochet hook, with the hook facing you. 4)Pull the loop through the bead, making sure the stitch is still loose enough to knit for the next row (this will take some getting used to). 5) Replace the stitch loop onto the left needle if necessary.

Colorways- this is really up to you, but I'd suggest main bead color be close to the yarn color, then go dark for one accent and light for the other. See http://knitty.com/IsSUEspringo6/FEATseducedbybeads.html for another excellent tutorial on how to knit with beads-it includes pictures, which is invaluable.
