Gauge
Gauge is not important for this project.
Dimensions
Dimensions will depend on yarn choice, needle choice, and pattern repeats. I gave the sample away without getting its exact dimensions.
Abbreviations and Stifches
p-purl yo - wrap the yarn around the right hand needle k2tog - knit two together ssk - 'slip-slip-knit': slip one stitch knitwise, slip a second stitch knitwise, knit both slipped stitches together k2togpsso - slip one stitch knitwise, knit next two stitches together, pass slipped stitch over I recommend Knitting Help (http://www.knittinghelp.com) for video examples of these stitches.
Variable Sizing
I give cast on count and other numbers for the size knit in the sample. If you would like to increase the size of your project, follow these (hopefully) simple steps: 1. Determine the diameter of the diamond motif you'd like to use. Use an odd number since the design is symmetrical. The sample has 5 - if you use a different value youll have to adjust the motif chart accordingly. We'll call this number $"\mathbf{x}"$ 2. Determine the number of diamonds across on the longer' sets. The sample has 4. We'll call this number 'y'. 3. Determine the width of border you'd like to use. The sample has a border 3 stitches wide. We'll call this number $^{\ast}\mathrm{{b}^{\prime}}$
Pattern
Cast on 43 $(b+1+x(2y-1)+1+b)$ stitches. bottom border: k across alrows (garter stitch) for b rows, finishing on a right side row 1, and all wrong side rows: k3 (b), pto last 3 (b), k3 (b) long set: 2: k6 $(6+1+(x-1)/2)$ , \*yo, ssk, k8 $(((\times-1)/2-1)+x+(x-1)/2)^{\star}\,\}$ I times, k5 $((\mathsf{x}-1)/2+\mathsf{b})$ 4: k5, \*k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, $\mathsf{K}\mathsf{G}^{\star}$ y times, k5 6: k4, \*k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, ${\sf K5^{\star}}$ y times, k4 8: k5, \*yo, k2togpsso, yo, $\mathsf{K}7^{\star}$ y times, k5 10: repeat row 2 12: k all short set: Repeat long set instructions, but add $\pmb{x}$ to the number of k's at the beginning and end of each row and only knit the section between the $^{\star_{\sf S}}{\sf y}\cdot1$ times. For example, 14: k11, \*yo, ssk, $k8^{\star}\,{\mathsf{y}}\,{\mathsf{-}}\,{\mathsf{1}}$ times, k10 top border: k across as many rows as you did for the bottom border, binding off on the last row Repeat rows 2-13 4 more times. Bind off on last row.
Diamond Motif - Written
These instructions are for a diamond with a diameter of 5 $(x{=}5)$ . The lace stitches use an additional stitch to each side of the yarnovers, so the width of the working area of these rows is 7 $(1+\times+1)$ 1: k3, yo, ssk, k5 2: p all 3: k1, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k1 4: p all 5: k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk 6: p all 7: k2, yo, k2togpsso, yo, k2 8: p all 9: repeat row 1 10: p all
