Directions for the Right Mitt
Prestring 269 (and a few more) beads on the outside strand of the skein. (See beading information.) Using the long tail method, cast on 36 stitches and divide evenly over three needles.
Criss-Cros8 Join
To join, criss-cross the first stitch and the last stitch. Slip the first cast on stitch onto the right needle and lift the last stitch cast on over it. Place a marker in between these two stitches. (This eliminates the "stair-stepped" connection resulting in an even join.) Rounds 1-20: \*K2, P1, PB, P1, repeat from \* to the end of theround. Round 21: K4, M1 (Increase using the backward loop method), (K9, M1) 3x, K4. 40 stitches.

Happy Hoppin' Hands
Happy Spring! Happy Minnesota Yarn shop Hopping! Thank you for participating and your contributions to the MinnesotaFoodshelves. Please enjoy my fingerless mitts knit beaded pattern for warmth and a bit offun. The knitting pattern and optional bead placement match my Happy Hoppin' Cowl 2014, so have fun knitting the set. It's easy to add beadz to your knitting with thiz technique.
Materials
One hank of madelinetosh tosh dk. The color way pictured is Mansfield's Garden Party, 100% superwash merino wool, 225 yards. The mitts used about half the yardage. Any dk weight yarn would be a perfect substitute yarn. Gauge is 5 sts./in. Size 6 double pointed needles. These mitts are medium sized. (For a larger size, use size 7 needles. For a smaller size, use size 5 needles.) 2 Stitch Markers. Yarn needle. Stitch holder. The mitts are approximately 9" tall x 8" in circumference after blocking.
Optional
Approximately 550 (the mitts use exactly 538) TOH0 seed beads, size 6/0. The color used is #161 transparent crystal rainbow. Dental floss threader. Beading surface. Beads are available at many of the LYSs and online at: http://www.bobbybead.com
Beading Information
The optional beading is in between the purl stitches, in pattern. Each mitt uses exactly 269 beads. Using the dental floss threader, prestring a least 269 beads (a few more won't hurt) onto the outside strand of the yarn ball. Place beads into the knitting by sliding them up to the base of the last purl stitch worked, one at a time in pattern. The beads prominently face you as they are positioned between purl stitches. The pattern direction is PB for Place Bead. The bead placement instruction is P1, PB, P1 throughout. Beads are optional in this design. Eliminate the PB instructions if not using beads. This is a helpful U-Tube video for stringing beads onto the yarn using a dental floss threader: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtTCeehuSFw I use a fleece mat on a flattable surface rather than hold the beads in my hand. Fleece fabric is available at any fabric store. Cut a small square to use for a bead stringingsurface.
