Hommage Lace Shawl Pattern
Design: Hanna Jansson

Can't get enough of those leaves? The lace shawl's body incorporates the leaf pattern from the edge of Emily Ross' shawl Haruni. As this is my first attempt to create a lace shawl pattern, the elements and construction solutions are inspired by several existing gorgeous patterns like Haruni, Laminaria, Bottom-up Birch and Swallowtail. All credit to their designers and hence the pattern name: Hommage.

Materials
Yarn: Lace weight yarn, 700-looo m. The red shawl is knitted in two strands of Tedman & Kvist Merino Extrafine Lace 2/28. Recommended needle size: 3,5-4 mm circular needles. Crochet hook and waste yarn if needed for your choice of provisional cast on method. Gauge is not important. Tapestry needle. Blocking pins and needles.
Pattern notes
The shawl is a regular top down triangle lace shawl, with a garter stitch edge and twisted center stitch. The pattern for chart A is modular, and can be repeated as many times as you like before beginning chart B, for lace edge. Every row begins and ends with a three stitch garter sts border. The first st of every row is slipped purlwise loosely. All wrong side sts are purled, except for the garter stitch edge. Only rs rows are chartered. The center st is knit through the back loop on rs, and purled on the WS。 The charts only show half of the shawl. Repeat chart pattern until center st, k center st through back loop, and then repeat chart pattern again, ending row with three knit sts.
Directions
Using the provisional cast on method of your choice, Co 3 sts (I used Judy's Magic Cast On, as described in Knitty 2006). Sll loosely as if to purl, k2. Repeat this row until there are 7 slipped sts on each side. Sl 1, k2, then rotate knitting clockwise and pick up and knit 7 sts, in slipped edge sts. Then pick up and knit the 3 sts remaining from your provisional cast on. You now have 13 sts: 3 edge sts, 3 sts for the first half of the shawl, the center sts, the 3 sts for the second half, and finally 3 edge sts . Hommage lace shawl pattern.
