Bobble Alphabet
Complete charts with pattern for customizing Noah's Baby Blanket by Laura Majeski These textured alphabet letters made simply with bobble stitches on a background of single crochet. I originally designed four letters in a blanket for my friend's baby boy "Noah." Because I have received several questions about the construction of Noah's Baby Blanket, I have included the instructions and details for customization. The charts willfollow at the end. The letters can be also used for a college or high school pride blanket or anything else you can think of. The letters might make fun squares a swap or even an alphabet blanket for a child. For this reason, gauge doesn't matter; it's dependent on your project and yarn. For ease of assembly, this blanket was worked in long color panels on it's side. The charts will follow at the end.
Materials and Sizing
Yarn: Bernat Baby Coordinates 1 skein of each: A: Blue Bon Bon B: Soft Blue Hook: 5mm
Abbreviations & Stitches
bbobble ch chain dc double crochet SC single crochet sts stitches Bobble: Work 4dc in same st leaving 5 loops on the hook by omitting the last step in each dc (pulling yarn through last two loops). Yo and draw yarn through all 5 loops.
Noah's Baby Blanket
1: When you start, make your foundation chain a smidge longer than the length you wish your blanket to be. It's been a while but I think the Noah blanket was 70 sc sts. The foundation ch is usually very close to actual length so don't make it too long. If you wish to add a border, factor the border width into your chain length plus 1 for your turn chain. 2: Charts are worked on their side like the letter “A" to the right. When you start working the graph, read it left to right and start with the row with bobbles (the teal squares on the graph). This makes it so that you don't have to fuss over it's position. Each color panel will take up exactly 26 rows.
Crochet over your tails as you go that way you should only have the very end tail in the last panel to weave in.
First Letter Strip (N):
With A, ch # many sts. See notes for sizing1 Rows 1-4: sc across, ch1 turn. On row 2, sc over your tail to weave in as you go. Row 5: Sc 4 sts, work graph row with bobbles, sc across. Ch1 turn. See notes2 Row 6: sc across, ch1 turn. Repeat rows 5 through 6 until the rest of the letter is done. Sc 4 rows. End on the wrong side don't ch 1 (you'll do this with color B).
Next Letter Strips (O, A, H):
Snip color A, leaving at least a 6" tail. Switch to color B, ch1 turn. Repeat the directions for the previous letter and continue sc over tails as you go. Continue changing colors at each new letter panel.
Finishing
Weave in your final tail and block to your specifications. I didn't add a border. This pattern is available free for everyone and the pattern itself is not for resale.
