Adorabubble Knits Sock Pattern: Short Row Heel and Cable Leg Tutorial

This makes a great uni-sex sock. The cables pull the sock makingfor a nice firm fit. Instructions are written for a toe-up socks with a short row toe and heel on one long circular needle. You can easily knit them top down, two at a time, with whatever heel and toe you prefer and which ever method of circular knitting you prefer. Materials: Doodlebirds Softy Sock yarn; US #2, $40^{\prime\prime}$ circular needle, cable needle. Gauge: 28 sts per $4^{\prime\prime}$ square in stockinette stitch.

Special Stitches:

C2F: Cable 2to the front. Place 2 stitches on cable needle and hold to the front. Knit 2, knit 2stitches from cable needle. C2B: Cable 2to the back. Place 2 stitches on cable needle and hold to the back. Knit 2, knit 2 stitches from cable needle. Backwards Yo: Wrap the yarnfrom the back overthe top of the needle and around to the back. sssp: slip, slip, slip, purl (slip sts knitwise, coming from the back, pur all 3 sts together)

CO and Toe:

Provisional CO32(36) stitches. Patten isworkin increments of 8. If you need alargerorsmallersize simply addor subtract 8 more stitches (or any multiple of 8).

Short Rows Toe:

1. Knit to 2 sts before end of the needle #1, turn. 2. Backward yo, purl to 2sts before the end of needle #1, turn. 3. Backward yo, knit to one stitch before yo made in previous row, turn. 4. Backward yo, purl to one stitch before yo made in previous row, turn. 5. Repeat 3 and 4 until you have 10 sts between yo's, ending with a knit row, do not turn. 6.Knit to yo, knit yo together with the next stitch, turn. 7. Backward yo, purl to next pair (the yo and slipped stitch). Pur the first stitch of the pair, ssp the yo together with the next st. 8.Backward yo, knit across to next pair, knit the fist stitch, k3tog the next 2yo's together with the next stitch. Turn. 9. Backward yo, purl to next pair, purl first st, ssp the next 2yos together with the next st. 10. Repeat 9 and 10 until all the yo's are worked ending with a pur row, turn. 11. Backward yo, knittothe yo at end of needle, knit yotogether with next st. Do nottun, knit around tolast yo, ssk the yo together with the next st. Place provisional cast on stitches on your needle, knit even across the bottom of the sock. Foot:

Increase round: K4, $^{*}\mathrm{m}1$ , k8(9); repeatfrom \* to last 4(5 sts) on needle #1, end k4 (5), knit to end of needle #2. You will now have 36 (40) sts on needle #1 and 32 (36) on needle #2. Begin working stitch pattern across only the top of the foot on needle #1. Knit even across needle #2. Cables are worked on every $4^{\mathrm{th}}$ round. 1. First needle: $^{*}\mathsf{C}2\mathsf{F}$ , k4; repeat from \* across (forthe largersize, you will end with a C2F). Second needle, knit even. 2. Knit 3 rounds even. 3. First needle: $^{*}{\mathsf{k}}4.$ C2B; repeatfrom \* across (forthe larger size, youwillend with a k4). Second needle, knit even. 4. Knit 3 rounds even. 5. Repeat 1-4 until you reach about $1.5^{\prime\prime}$ from the heel. Make a note of which round you left off on before turning the heel. You will want to pick up where you left off.

Short Row Heel:

Short rows are worked one sock at a time on the stitches from the second needle. 12. Knit to 1 stitch before end of second needle, turn. 13. Backward YO, pur to 1 stitch before the end, turn. 14. Backward YO, knit to one stitch before YO made in previous row, turn. 15. Backward YO, purl to one stitch before YO made in previous row, turn. 16. Repeat 3 and 4 until you have 8 sts between YO's, ending with a knit row, do not turn. 17. Knit to YO, correct the mount of the yo and knit together with the next stitch, tum. 18. Backward YO, pur to next pair. Purl the first stitch of the pair, ssp the yo together with the next st. 19. Backward yo, knit across to next pair, knit the first stitch, correct the mounts of the next 2 Yos and k3tog. Turn. 20. Backward yo, purlto next pair, purl firstst, sspthe next 2yostogether with the nextst. 21. Repeat 8 and 9 until all the yo's are worked ending with a purl row, turn. 22.
