Trumpet Mittens

These mittens have an unusual cut; they follow the shape of your hand (decrease for wrist and finger section) and are finished off with a spectacular ruffled edge.

Size: medium
Width: Wrist: 3.2 inches Palm: 3.5 inches Finger section: 3 inches Length: approx.: 11.5 inches inc. ruffle edging.
Materials:
70g of sock yarn (510 yard/150g) preferably Wollmeise sock yarn 80/20. I used colour “Uluru". Or 238 yards of any other sock yarn. US size 3 circular needles 32 inches (for magic loop technique) or 5 double point needles. Please check gauge. √1 stitch marker √Yarn needle
Gauge:
6 stitches per inch.
Glossary:
M1L: (make one left) with left needle, lift strand between stitches from the front, knit through the back loop. Kfb: knit once into front of loop, leave stitch on the needle, knit once into back of loop, slip stitch. K2tog: knit two together.

Instructions:
Cast on 56 stitches and join for knitting in the round. For magic loop technique please check out www.youtube.com for instructions.
Section 1 (cuff):
Round 1: knit Round 2: purl Round 3: knit Round 4: purl Round 5: knit Round 6: purl Round 7 - 11: knit (5 rounds)
Section 2 (wrist):
Round 8: k 4, k2tog to end of round = 48 stitches Round 9 - 23: knit (15 rounds) Round 24: k 4, k2tog to end of round = 40 stitches Round 25 - 27: knit (3 rounds) Round 28: k 5, M1L until end of round: 48 stitches
Section 3 (palm):
Round 29 - 50: knit (22 rounds)
Section 4 (thumb gusset):
Round 1: knit up to last stitch in round. Place marker, M1L, k 1, M1L. Round 2 - 3: knit Round 4: knit to marker, slip marker, M1L, knit to end of round, M1L. Section 5 (fingers):
Knit to marker, remove marker, place 13 thumb stitches on a second circular needle. You will have 47 stitches now. Cast on 1 stitch = 48 stitches and re-join into round. Round 1: k 4, k2tog to end of round = 40 stitches Round 2 to 21: knit (20 rounds)
Section 6 (ruffled edge):
Round 22: kfb each stitch to end of round = 80 stitches Round 23 - 32: knit (10 rounds) Round 33: Cast off using elastic bind off: Purl 1, (yarn over, purl 1, pull yarn over purled stitch, pull second stitch on right needle over first stitch) repeat until all stitches are bound off.

Section 7 (thumb): Place 13 thumb stitches on a circular needle for magic loop technique or on 3 double point needles. M1L in the space where the thumb joints the hand = 14 stitches. Round 1 - 11: knit (10 rounds) Round 12: purl Round 13: knit Round 14: purl Round 15: Cast off using elastic bind off: Purl 1, (yarn over, purl 1, pull yarn over purled stitch, pull second stitch on right needle over first stitch) repeat until all stitches are bound off. Weave in ends, wash and spread out carefully to dry. Enjoy!
