Hawthorne
Lace-Edged Wedgec Deborah Tomasello

The Hawthorne Lace-edged Wedge is inspired by the Knit Picks Hawthorne Fingering Kettle Dye yarn. The wedge is knit sideways with a textured body and a lace edging that continues around the corner and up the side after the body is complete. There is no seaming. With the uncomplicated repeats, this generously oroportioned piece works up easily and fast. You determine the size you want. The cover wedge is 60" long and 21" deep at the widest point. Wear it with a shawl pin, or simply wrap ends over your shoulders. Easy to knit. Funtowear! Size: Knitter's choice: Cover wedge measures 60 inches long and 21 inches deep at the wide end. Materials: 2 skeins Knit Picks Hawthorne Fingering kettle Dye Yarn-- colorway: Picnic. (For the size shown you will use only 150g of the 200g in both skeins—-or about 550 yards.) #5 needle, large enough to hold all the sts. Stitch marker Gauge: Gauge is not critical on this piece, but I achieved approx. 7.5 sts/inch...8 sts/inch after blocking. Abbreviations: K = knit P = purl K2tog = knit two sts together YO = yarn over Sl = slip a st Psso = pass slipped st off KFB- (represented by "m" on chart) = knit the st and then knit it again in back of loop to increase a st. Instructions: CO 24 sts. Right side (RS) rows have odd numbers, and wrong side (WS) rows have even numbers. Begin working chart (or following written instructions) with row 1. Knit the first 2 sts, place marker. Then proceed to work the rest of the row as written. The marker simply separates the body of the wedge from the lace edging. The chart is a 16-row repeat, and to achieve the size shown on the cover, you will work the chart through 21 times. On the body portion of the chart, keep increasing per established pattern. (All sts obviously are not shown) You will have about 87 body sts after 21 repeats, but the exact number is not critical. ifter a purl, simply leave the yarn in front where it is before Row 1: K2, pass marker (pm), p1, k1, p1, yo, k2tog, p1, k1, p1, k1, yo, k2tog, k2, yo, s1-k2tog-psso, k5, yo, k2tog. Once you have completed the body, BO, on RS the body sts. Remove marker, Work across the lace sts, (row 1) keeping true to the established pattern. Turn. Work the WS row (row 2) back across per established pattern. Turn. Before beginning row 3, pick up corner st from body and work it with the first st of row 3. Work across. Turn. Work row 4 back across. Turn. Work the next row in, picking up again , in the same corner st of the wedge body and work it in with the first st of row 4. Turn and work back . You are not attaching the WS rows to the wedge body. Do this one more time, picking up the same corner st to work in row 5. Then knit back. Now, continuing in the established lace pattern, pick up every other BO wedge body st to be worked in with the first st of RS rows only. Once you have worked all the way across, and attached st all along the BO edge. BO the lace sts.
