Green Tunisian Cat

By Teresa Alvarez (July 2013) About copyright: It's really something great when people like what I have designed. You can sell the final item or whatever you like, but it would be nice to reference where you found the pattern! If there is anything you do not understand or there are any mistakes, please, send me a message! As you can see in the way I write, English is not my first language. So, you could come across some mistakes and grammatical inconsistencies?. Sorry and my apologies! This file describes how to crochet a cat using the Tunisian crochet technique. I like this technique because it is easy to obtain a fabric without holes. While experimenting with Tunisian crochet and amigurumis, I made two cats: one pink (with legs and arms, you can find it in Ravelry) and this green one. This design combines flat pieces (body, head and tail) with a circular piece for the cat's base. This pattern is not very detailed, it gives more a general idea of how to crochet the car. Important bits: The final number of stitches in the base is the double of the number of stiches of row 1 of the body. If a slender cat is preferred: crochet more rows without increases. A beautiful touch: a small rattle with a lace around the neck!
ABOUT YARN:
Any yarn would do nicely. I've used a yarn from Pierrot: Kirakira kids (30gr=43m.) in green. ABOUTGAUGE: It is not important, as far as you are consistent with your tension. ABOUTHOOK: 4 mm Tunisian hook Remember that when making amigurumis, stitches should be tight.
YOU WILL NEED:
Yarn for the cat: green (around 3 skeins). Two safety eyes. Whiskers Stuffing. One pipeline (to shape the tail, not compulsory!) Tapestry needle to weave in ends. ABOUT CROCHET TERMS: I've followed the US terminology. 'Classic crochet' Stitch: st Chain: ch Slip stitch: sl st Single crochet: sc Sc2tog: decreasing two sc (i.e., 2 st become 1) Sc3tog: decreasing 3 sc (i.e. 3 stitches become 1) Tunisian crochet notation and comments: · One Row = Forward pass + reverse pass ?Increases or decreases are made in the forward pass Only the basic Tunisian simple stitch is used: Tss (see: http://www.crochetnmore.com/123basics.htm, http://www.crochetcabana.com/html/technique tunisian.html , http://crochetpatterncompanion.blogspot.com.es/2011/04/five-basic-rules-in-tunisiancrochet.html or http://www.kimguzman.com/ for learning Tunisian crochet)
PATTERN:
Base Using green The base is worked using Tunisian crochet in the round. Web pages that can be useful: http://thelaughingwillow.blogspot.com.es/2011 07 01 archive.html http://www.craftblog.com/tunisian-crochet-in-the-round/ Just in case, you think that working in the round is difficult: it is not!, it's less comfy that working flat but it's not difficult. I prefer beginning with the outer circle and working the rounds decreasing towards thecenter! Round 1: So, following the instructions on how to work in the round: chain 48 st and work in the round (48 st) Round 2: working in the round, decrease 6 st. Assembly and Finishing touches
TAIL

The wide part is attached to the body

There are 2 pieces. Take them and place them with wrong sides facing, using green, sl st along the edges. If a pipe cleaner is used, put it inside tail.
BODY and HEAD
We have two identical pieces. Place nose and eyes on one side. Put wrong sides facing and sl st around it. Take care in attaching the tail as you go (I think it's easier this way). See photos for guiding.
