Pattern Notes
Cable 4 right: slip first 2 stitches onto cable needle, hold in back. Knit the next two stitches, knit the two stitches off the cable needle. Cable 4 left: slip first 2 stitches onto cable needle, hold in front. Knit the next two stitches, knit the twc stitches off the cable needle. Make 1: For this pattern I made one stitch by picking up and knitting the strand laying between the stitches, but feel free to use whatever method you prefer. You'll be using your US 7 needles for this part again. With the front side of your mitt facing you, pick up 20 stitches one row below the K2,P2 ridge at the top of the mitt. Cast on 20 stitches. Join in the round with the front side of the mitt facing you; otherwise you might end up putting the flip-top on backwards. :0sts, K2, P2 for 20sts. 1. Thumb
Open thumb (for fingerless mitts): Move thumb stitches from waste yarn back onto US 7 needle. Pick up and knit 3 stitches from the top edge of the thumb hole; 12 stitches total. Join in round being careful not to twist. Knit in plain stockinette for 3 rounds. Knit 2, Purl 2 for 3 rounds. Bind off loosely, and weave in all end. Full thumb: Move thumb stitches from waste yarn back onto US 7 needle. Pick up and knit 3 stitches from the top edge of the thumb hole; 12 stitches total. Join in round being careful not to twist. Knit in plain stockinette until work reaches fingertip of wearer. Break yarn and thread it through the remaining stitches. Draw tight and secure on the inside. Weave in all other ends.
