GLAM ROCK SKI HAT
aka Vince's Tundra Hat, by knittyinpink Inspired by Vince's ear flap hat worn in the series 1 Mighty Boosh episode “Tundra". This is more of a set of notes than a complete pattern, I hope they are of some use.

Acknowledgements:
Reference was made to the Amelia hat pattern from Stitch 'n' Bitch calendar 2007, and thanks to Woolly Wormhead for the idea of the crochet edging (Scrappy Flapper pattern initially referenced)
PATTERN NOTES:
This hat was made deliberately large - the original example in the episode looked generous-sized when worn. You may wish to reduce the stitch counts in line with your crown size if you want a snugger fiting hat. The example in the picture measures approximately 22 inches around i.e. there is a lot of positive ease! The hat was also blocked over a head form which increased its girth a little. Ear flaps (make two): Using $4.5\mathsf{m m}$ straight needles CO 4 stitches Row 1 - knit to end Row 2 - purl to end Row 3 - (and every odd row to row 15 inclusive) sl1, kfb, kto last 2 stitches, kfb, k1 Row 4 - (and every even row to row 16 inclusive) sl1, purl to end Row 17 - knit to end Row 18 - purl to end Row 19 - as row 3 Row 20 - purl to end (20 stitches) Rows 21 to 40 inclusive - continue in stocking stitch as set Leave live stitches on DPN or stitch holder.
Hat:
To attach the ear flap into a round for the hat crown, I transferred the first ear flap onto the circular needle, then CO a further 24 stitches using the backwards loop (double twisted) method. I then joined in the second ear flap and CO a further 24 stitches, making a total on 88 sts OTN. I would advise that you may wish to CO more stitches for the front of the hat and proportionally fewer for the back, my notes do not state whether I did this and I can't now remember! Join in the round and knit approximately 5.5 inches in stockinette (i.e. Knit every round). You may wish to reduce this a little depending on desired effect and head size. On the next knit round, place markers evenly around (in the example every 22 stitches) dividing the hat stitches into four equal sections. Begin decreases as follows: Row 1 - K2tog (K to 2 stitches before marker, SSK, sm, k2tog)\* repeat to end of round , SSK (this makes 4 sets of paired decreases) Row 2 - knit allstitches Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 3 times more,i.e. 4 times in total Then repeat row 1 every row until 8 stitches remain. Cut yarn, thread through stitches and fasten off. Weave in any ends.
Crochet edging:
In order to stabilise the edging and help prevent curling, add a double crochet (UK single crochet) edging all around the edges including the ear flaps, using a suitable hook for the yarn size.
I-cord braids:
Add a 2 or 3 stitch i-cord to the end of each ear flap, originals were approx. 15 inches long. You could also simply add braids using multiple strands of yarn. Wash and block the hat, then make 2 pompoms if required and attach to the ends of the i-cords.
Needle-felting:
To make the lightning bolt motifs on each ear flap, I used the Lamb's Pride yarn to make the outlines first, these were done by eye without a template. You may wish to make a card template and use that to tack the outer edge around. I then filed in with more yarn, then added a top layer of BFL fibre to give a smoother look.
