Slip the next stitch after that off the needle and leave it hanging by its buddy (on a separate marker, if you must..) Take the FIRST stitch that's hanging, and put it back on the left needle, without twisting it. Now slip the 2 sts from the right needle back to the left needle. NOW, pick up the lonely hanging stitch, and put it on the left needle. The goal in the end is to have the slipped left stitch cross over in front of the slipped right stitch, with the two garter stitches between them. Then, k7 or as many as the pattern instructs.
