Eclipse By Jacquelyn Ridzy

Eclipse was inspired by a fall day when I was driving around in my little red convertible feeling chilly. The sun was shining, but the wind was also blowing my hair around and making my neck cold. Despite the changing seasons, I like to savor every bit of sunshine and fresh air that I can. Ponytails or hats may keep the wind at bay, but they can also ruin some hairstyles and leave my neck exposed. This conundrum led me to dream up a lightweight but warm covering for my hair and neck: a glamorous driving scarf that wouldn't fly away at high speeds. The Eclipse snood was born. Milanese lace allows air to circulate so you don't overheat while the sun shines and also keeps you looking pretty. The Milanese lace pattern was adapted for knitting in the round from Barbara Walker's Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns. Skills needed to knit this pattern: Knit in the round, increase, decrease Materials: 1 skein of Malabrigo Lace Merino or Malabrigo Sock (approx. 400 yards of most lace or fingering weight yarns will do) Sample is knit in Malabrigo Lace in Amoroso. US 5 16" circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge 1 stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the round Gauge: 6 stitches per inch in Milanese Lace Pattern. Row gauge isn't important because you can simply adjust the number of pattern repeats to knit your snood to the desired length. Sizes: 20" (22", 24")
