These little bed socks are cute and cosy and were finished just in time for an 'arctic blast' to sweep over Scotland. They knit up very quickly and the lace pattern is easily memorised, so you'll have happy, warm feet in no time!

Pattern
Folded Picot Hem
Provisionally cast on 48 stitches onto scrap yarn. I like to cast on this way with a crochet hook and using the brilliant tutorial here: http://knittingatknoon.com/provisional.html Divide thestitchesover 3DPNsso that there are 24 stitches on needle 1 and 12 stitches on needles2and3. Join for working in the round, taking care not to twist the stitches and placing a marker at the start oftheround. Knit 3 rounds Next round: (yo, k2tog) to end Knit 3 rounds Next round: Fold your knitting so that the provisional cast on round is behind the row you just knitted. Carefully start to unravel the scrap yarn and knit the first stitch on the needle with the corresponding first stitch from the provisional cast onrow.Continueuntilall stitches on the needle have been worked, this creates the folded picot hem. Knit 2 rounds. Purl one round. Knit 1 round.
Lace Pattern
Round 1: k3, work row 1 of the lace pattern (see chart) twice,k27 The first 24 stitches form the front of the leg and foot. Continue in this way, knitting the first 3 stitches of each row before working the corresponding row of the lace pattern twice, and then knitting until the end of the round. Work the lace chart twice, and then rounds 1-4 oncemore.
Heel
Next round: k3, work row 5 of the lace pattern twice, k3, sl1, k23, turn Next row: sl1, p23, turn Next row: sl1, k23, turn Repeat these last two rows 10 more times, and then work the purl row once more. Next row: sl1, k13, ssk, k1, turn Next row: sl1, p5, p2tog, turn Next row: sl1, k6, ssk, k1, turn Next row: sl1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn Continue to shape the heel in this way, working one more stitch before the decrease every row until all the heel stitches have been worked. (14 heel stitches.) Next row: k all stitches across the heel.
Gusset
Using another DPN, pick up and knit 12 stitches along thesideoftheheelflap.Workrow6of the lace chart over the 24 stitches of the foot. Pick up and knit 12 stitches along the edge of the other heel flap and then knit 7 stitches from the heel. The centre of the heel is now the start of theround. You should have 19 stitches on the needles holding the heel and gusset stitches, and 24 stitches on the needle for the top of the foot. Next round:k to 3 stitches from the end of the first needle, k2tog, k1. Work row 7 of the lace chart across the 24 stitches for the top of the foot. On the third needle: k1, ssk, k to end.
Foot
Continue to work this last decrease row every other round until there are 12 stitches on the needles holding the heel stitches, and working through the lace chart for thefront of the foot. Continue to work the lace pattern on the top of the foot and then stocking stitch on the bottom of thefootonce thedecreaseshavebeen completed, until the lace pattern has been worked a total of nine times. Work rows 1-5 of the lace pattern once more.
Toe
Round 1: k to3 stitchesfrom theendof the needle, k2tog, k1, on the second needle k1, ssk thenkto3 stitches from the end of the needle and k2tog, k1. On the third needle k1, ssk and thenk to end. Round 2:k Repeat these last two rounds four more times. (28 stitches.) Knit the stitchesfrom needle one onto needle 3 so that you have 14 stitches on each needle. Graft the toe and block if desired.
