Soft Syncopated Brioche Scarf
by Kath Andrews A gorgeously soft and warm scarf that has a reversible fabric and makes the most of the variegated colourways of Maxima without the problems of 'pooling'

Materials: 3 x 100g skeins of Manos del Uruguay Maxima (Soft Extra-fine Merino Wool, 200m/100g) 5mm needles (straight or circular) Tension: 10cm2 = 17 stitches x 40 rows Finished Size: 26cm x 162cm Abbreviations K - Knit K2tog - Knit 2 stitches together P2tog - Purl 2 stitches together YO - Yarn over needle (front to back) \*\*\* - Repeat instructions between the asterisks to the end of the row. Sl 1 wyib - Slip 1 stitch to the right needle with the yarn held behind the work (in back) Sl 1 wyif - Slip 1 stitch to the right needle with the yarn held at the front of the work NB: with both of the slip stitch instructions the back of the work is always that furthest away from the knitter and the front is always that nearest the knitter. Cast on 44 stitches Set-up row: \*YO, sl 1 wyib, K1\* Rows 1-8: \*YO, Sl 1 wyib, k2tog\* Rows 9-16: \*SI 1 wyif, YO, P2tog\* The first stitch of the row (YO or Sl 1 wyif) can feel awkward at first, but after a few repeats of the pattern it becomes easier. Repeat rows 1-16 37 more times, or until you run out of yarn. Join new skeins at the ends of rows with a temporary reef knot. Cast off. Undo the knots at row ends and weave the yarn ends into the fabric of the scarf.
