Let's Play! Beanie Pattern

Let's Play! Beanie Pattern Stranded-knitting knitplay! This simple beanie is a great first stranded-knitting project. The design is an 8-stitch repeat, so you can practice holding the yarns without going crazy following a complex pattern. By the end of each round, repeating the pattern numerous times, you'll be in the colorwork groove!
MATERIALS
Yarn: 182 Yards DK Weight Color A: 110 yards Color B (make sure you have a strong contrast) : 72 yards We used Tosh DK Tannehill (A) and HoliFestival (B)
Needles:
Size 6 (4.0mm) and 7 (4.5mm) 16" US circular needles, Size 7 (4.5) double-pointed needles Tapestry needle to weave in ends Gauge: 24 stitches = 4" in stockinette stranded knitting Sizes: Sm (med, large)
BOTTOMRIB
Using size 6 needles, cast on 90 (96, 105) stitches Join, being careful not to twist Rib pattern: \*K2, p1 repeat Continue in Rib Pattern for 2"
BEANIE
Change to size 7 needle Increase 6 (8,7) stitches evenly around; 96 (104,112) stitches Knit 3 more rows with color A Add color B: Knit chart below, repeating pattern 12 (13,14) times


After knitting Chart, continue in color A until hat measures 6.25"
CROWN DECREASE
Place Marker every 12 (13,14) stitches Row 1: \*knit until 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, sm; repeat from \* until end of round
Row 2: knit
Repeat rows 1 and 2, switching to dpns when too small for circular needle Continue rows 1 and 2 until 2 (2, 3) stitches remain between stitch markers. Cut yarn leaving 8" tail. With tapestry needle, draw yarn through remaining stitches, pull tight and knot. Stranded knitting: In this chart, each box is a stitch. Starting with row 1, knit across from right to left. The row is knitted with two colors of yarn: knit each stitch in the color on the chart. When knitting a new color stitch, bring the second yarn from behind, being careful not to pull too tightly. The yarn carried across the back is called a "float" : Let it float loosely across the back to avoid puckering! Here's are how the floats look on the inside:


FINISHING
