Materials used.
Approximately 130 m /142 yd (40 g) of Pear Tree Yarns Supersoft 4 Ply (100% merino wool, fingering weight) 40cm/15 in 4 mm circular needle (US size 6. UK size 8) 80cm/30in 4 mm circular needle, or one set of 4mm double pointed needles 2 mm crochet hook Stitch holders/extra needles/scrap yarn One stitch marker
Gague/tension:
23,5 st = 10cm/4in in the round, after wet blocking.
Size:
To fit child 1/2-2 years (48-50cm)
Earflap (make two):
In MC, CO 3 st Row 1: K 3 (WS) Row 2: k1, m1, k1, m1 (5st) (RS) Row 3. k all st Row 4: K1, m1, k3, m1, k1 (7st) Row 5. k all st Row 6: k1, m1, k5, m1, k1 (9st) Row 7. k4, p1, k4 Row 8. k1 m1, k7, m1, k1 (11 st) Row 9. k4, p3, k4 Continue to increase in this fashion, one stitch on each side, on every other row (Rs). On WS rows, continue to knit the first and last 4 st, purling the ones in between, making a 4 st garter stitch border on each side. Do this until you have 21 st on the needle, then knit the Ws: K 4, p13, k4 \*(RS) K21(WS) K4, p13, k4\* repeat from \* to \* twice more Work an increase round + Ws (still with garter stitch border) \*(RS) k23(WS) K4, p15, k4\* repeat from \* to \* twice more Put stitches on stitch holder or a scrap piece of yarn.

Head:
Using MC, CO 32 st on a circular needle (40cm), transfer the first earflap onto a second needle, then knit them onto the needle with the co st. Co another 32 st, transfer and knit the second earflap onto the circular needle. Place marker (110 st) P36, k15, p40, k15, p4 k 1 row P 35, k 17, p38, k17, p3 k1 row p 34, k 19, p36, k 19, p2 Continue, knitting all stitches, in colour pattern as follows: On the next row \*k2tog, k20\* around Knit one row \*K2tog, k19\* around Knit one row \*K2tog, k18 around\* Knit one row. Now decrease as above but on every row (with one stich less between the decreases every row), and changing to double pointed needles or magic loop tecnique when necessary. until there are 5 stitches left. Cut yarn and thread through the stitches. Pull to close and thread yarn through the stitches a few times more. Weave in ends.
Tassel & ties:
With MC, make loop and slip stitch (crochet) in top of hat. Chain 10 cm or desired lenght of top tassel. Leave the loop open. Cut 10cm strands of MC and CC and put through loop. Tighten loop and weave in end. Wrap yarn a few rounds around the top of the tassel. With two strands of MC and one strand of CC make two plaits. Attatch to tips of earflaps.
