Chances are if you ever visit Portland, Oregon you'll end up making a trip to Multnomah Falls. The waterfalls over there are gorgeous but if you want a less crowded experience head up Triple Falls trail. You'll see plenty of wildlife on this trails that loops under and over three waterfalls.Like the Triple Falls trail these socks are pretty straightforward - worked toe up in a simple lace pattern with a short row heel. Who knows, you might take these socks to explore some waterfalls as well? SKILL LEVEL Beginner

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Sizes small, medium, large. Foot circumference $6.5^{\prime\prime}/7.5^{\prime\prime}/8^{\prime\prime}$ Leg length and foot length are adjustable. MATERIALS AND TOOLS

Needles: US 0, US 1, US 2 Set of 5 double-pointed needles or size to obtain gauge. Can easily be adjusted to two circular needles. Uses approximately 300/310/320 yards of light fingering or fingering weight yarn (yarns shown in the pictures are Colinette Jitterbug and Malabrigo Sock)

GAUGE

Gauge is measured in stockinette stitch. Size small 38 sts and $48\ {\mathsf{r o w s}}\,=\,4^{\prime\prime}/10\ {\mathsf{c m}}$ in stockinette stitch on US 0 Size medium 30 sts and $44~{\mathsf{r o w s}}\,=\,4^{\prime\prime}/10~{\mathsf{c m}}$ in stockinette stitch on US 1 Size large 28 sts and $40\ {\mathsf{r o w s}}\,=\,4^{\prime\prime}/10\ {\mathsf{c m}}$ in stockinette stitch on US 2

SHAPE TOE

Using figure-eight cast on cast on 16 stitches1 placing them on two needles (8 sts each). Knit 4 rows, on the last row divide stitches between 4 needles - 4 stitches on each needle and place a marker after the last 4 stitches have been knit. This marker indicates the beginning of the row from now on. Work the following 2 rows 10 times until there are 14 stitches on each needle (56 sts total): Row1. Needle 1 and 3: kfb, k to end of the needle Needle 2 and 4. k to 2 sts before the end of the needle, kfb, k1 Row 2 : knit all stitches Knit 10 more rows in stockinette stitch. FOOT Start the lace pattern as follows: Row1: Needle 1 and 2: k1, (p2, yo, kb2tog) 6 times, p2, k1 Needle 3 and 4: knit Row 2 and 4 Needle 1 and 2: k1, (p2, k2) 6 times, p2, k1 Needle 3 and 4: knit Row3 Needle 1 and 2: k1, (p2, k2tog, yo) 6 times, p2, k1 Needle 3 and 4: knit Repeat rows 1-4 15 times or until foot measures $1.5^{\prime\prime}$ less than desired length ending with row4. Work needles 1 and 2 as for row 1.

SHAPE HEEL

Heel shaping is worked on needles 3 and 4 only. Before proceeding please see "Pattern notes" how to wrap and turn stitches and how to work wraps with wrapped stitches. Row 1[RS]. Sl1, knit across needle 3 and 4, 2 sts before the end of needle 4 w&t Row 2[ws]. Sl1, purl across needle 4 and 3, 2 sts before the end of needle 3 w&t Row 3[RS]. Sl1, knit across needle 3 and 4, 1 sts before the previous wrap (there's an obvious gap between the unwrapped and wrapped stitch) w&t Row 4[ws]. Sl1, purl across needle 3 and 4, 1 sts before the previously wrapped stitch w&t Repeat rows 3 and 4 until there are 8 stitches between wrapped stitches (you have wrapped 9 stitches on both sides) At this point wrapped stitches will now have two wraps,pick up both wraps and work them together with the stitch which had been wrapped (see "Pattern Notes" for instructions). Row 5 [RS]: Sl 1, knit across stitches on needle 3 and 4 until the previously wrapped stitch, knit wrapped stitch, w&turn Row 6 [wS]: Sl 1, p to first wrapped st, p wrapped st, w&t. Row 7 [RS]: Sl 1, k to first double-wrapped st, k double-wrapped st, w&t. Row 8 [WS]: Sl 1, p to first double-wrapped st, p double-wrapped st, w&t. Repeat Rows 7 and 8 until one double-wrapped stitch remains at each end of needle 4. Row 10 [RS]: Sl 1, k to double-wrapped st, k double-wrapped st. Do not turn work.\* (Work wraps of remaining double-wrapped st together with st on the next round.

HEEL FLAP

Continue heel by repeating pattern rows 1-4 3 times, then knit rows 1 and 2. Row1: Needle 1 and 2: k1, (p2, yo, kb2tog) 6 times, p2, k1 Needle 3 and 4: knit Row 2 and 4 Needle 1 and 2: k1, (p2, k2) 6 times, p2, k1 Needle 3 and 4: knit Row3 Needle 1 and 2: k1, (p2, k2tog, yo) 6 times, p2, k1 Needle 3 and 4: knit Although I thrive to make these patterns as good as possible I am not a professional tech editor. LEG

From this point forward lace pattern is worked on all four needles as follows: Row 1: p1, yo, kb2tog, p1 Row 2 and 4: p1, k2, p1 Row 3: p1, k2tog, y0, p1 Repeat rows 1-4 total of 13 times or until the desired length less $1^{\,\prime\prime}$ is achieved. From this point forward repeat row 2 total of 12 times. Bind off loosely.

PATTERN NOTES

Notes on working wrapped stitches: To wrap and turn on a RS row, knit to point specified in pattern, bring yarn to front of work between needles, slip next stitch to right-hand needle, bring yarn around this stitch to back of work, slip stitch back to left-hand needle, turn work to begin purling back in the other direction.

Working wraps together with wrapped stitches: When working rows which follow short rows, work the "wraps" at the turning points of the short rows, together with the stitches they wrap, as follows: When working a RS row: Knit to wrapped stitch. Slip next stitch from left needle to right needle, use tip of left needle to pick up "wrap" and place it on right needle, insert left needle into both wrap and stitch, and knit them together. When working a WS row: Purl to wrapped stitch. Slip next stitch from left needle to right needle, use tip of left needle to pick up "wrap" and place it on right needle, slip both wrap and stitch back to left needle, purl together through back loops.
