# Sarastro
mittens by Caoua Coffee
materials:
220yards/200m solid/semisolid worsted weight yarn (Cascade 220 or Berroco Ultra Alpaca would work fine) needles: US3 / 3.25mm and US4 / $3.5\mathrm{mm}$ or size to obtain gauge cable needle, tapestry needle, 8 inches of waste yarn
size:
woman's medium $(7.5^{\circ})$
gauge:
$6.5~\mathrm{sts}=1$ inch in stockinette
notes about size and gauge:
the mittens are worked in a tighter gauge than normally recommended for the yarn. this results in a dense fabric suitable for warm mittens. if you would like to get larger sized mittens, I therefore don't recommend just going up a needle size but rather choosing a thicker yarn at the same time.

about this pattern:
in “The Magic Flute', opera by Wolfgang A. Mozart, this story about good and evil, Sarastro is the high priest of the temple preserving the power-bestowing sevenfold sun circle. Symbol of the light, he represents the enlightened sovereign who rules according to principles based on reason, wisdom, and nature. After many twists and turns in the story, the light overcomes the night and goodness triumphs. see the symbol of the light and the surrounding sunrays in the pattern of the mittens? the center motif of the mittens can be found in Leslie Stanfield's book The New Knitting Stitch Library'.
