Materials
Aran weight yarn. Wool, acrylic or a wool/acrylic blend is preferable. 65 [85,105, 125]m (71 [93, 115, 137]yds) The hat pictured used Avenue Aran (1oo% acrylic).
Size
6months [2years, 6years, 10years] to fit heads 40 [45, 50, 55]cm (16 [18, 20, 22]in). The hat pictured is the 6months size.
Equipment
Set of four 4.5mm (Us7) dpns One stitch marker.
Gauge
18sts and 25rnds = 10cm(4in) square on 4.5mm (Us7) needles, worked in stocking stitch in the round and blocked.

Instructions
CO 63[72, 81,90]sts 0n 40cm (16in) 4.5mm (US7) dpns. Join to work in the round, taking care not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the end of the round. Rnd1: \*K6, p3, repeat from \* to end of rnd. Repeat Rnd 1 until the work measures 11 [14, 16, 18]cm (4.25 [5.5, 6.25, 7]in) from the cast on edge.
Shape crown
Dec rnd 1: \*K6, p3tog, repeat from \* to end of rnd. (49 [56, 63, 70]sts) Next rnd: \*K6, pl, repeat from \* to end of rnd. Repeat the last rnd 2 more times. Dec rnd 2: \*Skp, k2, k2tog, p1, repeat from \* to end of rnd. (35 [40, 45, 50]sts) Next rnd: \*K4, pl, repeat from \* to end of rnd. Dec rnd 3: \*Skp, k2tog, p1, repeat from \* to end of rnd. (21 [24, 27, 30]sts) Dec rnd 4: \*K2tog, p1, repeat from \* to end of rnd. (14 [16, 18, 20]sts) Break yarn and thread the tail through the remaining sts, removing the marker, and pultight. Weave in ends.
