Mexuar Pulsewarmer
by Teresa Tamayo

The mystically glimmering pulswarmers are inspired by a metal door in the Mexuar Hall leeding to the Myrtal Court in the Alhambra in Granada (Spain). Mexuar is probably derived from the arabic word 'mashwara' which means consultation. The inhabitants of Granada could consult magistrates of the sultanate in the Mexuar hall and normally they were not allowed to step through the metal door at the back of the hall to the heart of the Alhambra. This was a privilege for visitors with a high position and a close relation to the sultan. The deeper inside the building, the higher the position and the more private the chambers for the sultan. Enjoy knitting this door pattern with mystically glimmering beads and step into the beautiful world of the Alhambra.

Bead 750 rocailles on black yarn. If the beads are too small to string them up with a needle, follow the instructions after the manual. Cast on 40 sts. The wristwarmer is worked flat and it is knitted sideways. Work in Garter stitches without including beads for the first two rows.To achieve a zig-zag rim, aument 3 x1sts then decrease 3x1 sts on the left rim, repeat. Pattew: Every second row (in the back row), include beads according to the chart (between two Garter stitches). The beads will appear on the front side. Repeat row 3-16 for approx. 16 cm then finish pattern with line 17-23. A photo tutorial for knitting with beads is given after the manual. Bind off after approx. 17cm depending on the magnitude of the wrist. Finishing: Block to measurements, sew side. Crochet 1 row crab stitch on the left rim. Work 3 stitches on every cusp.
1. Stringing on small beads (2.6mm)
Start by stiffening your yarn end with a bit of glue. Rub the glue in gently and strech the yarn end to shape it as thin as possible. Let the glue harden for about 20 minutes. Cutting offthe end diagonally you receive a needle point at the yarn end. String on the required number of beads. If you are using larger beads, it might be possible to use a needle to string on the beads.
2. Working the beads
As shown on the fotographs step 1 to step 3 work in Garter stitches (Step1). Follow the chart. To place the beads, slip the bead as close as possible to the previous stich (Step 2). Knit the next stitch as usual (step3). Work the beads on one side only.
