Structure
This shawl is half-circular and has a stockinette body and lace border with skulls. The shawl knitted from the center of the neck and outwards. There is a garter stitch border formed by always knitting the first three and the last three stitches. The method of knitting the shape is from Mary Thomas’ Book of Knitting Patterns and it's based on increasing stitches in every few rows. The instructions for the stockinette body are written but the increases made in the stockinette part of the shawl are also summarized in the table below- The stitch counts in the table do not include the 6 border stitches. The lace border was designed for this project from scratch, so this is the only pattern in which you can find it. The instructions for the lace section are charted only.

For left handed knitters
If you are a mirror-knitter (you knit from the right needle to the left hand needle) you can knit the shawl following the written instructions without any changes. When you use charts you can read the charts from right to left using the normal chart key or read the charts from left to right using the chart key below. Notes
· If you are using stitch markers between the lace motifs, you will have to move them on rows 17, 21, 25, 29, 33 and 37. · If you want to knit a shallower version of the shawl, cast on 166 stitches (160 + 6 border stitches), knit 4 rows and start following the directions on row 70. Continue following the directions normally to the end of the pattern.
