How to work Mosaic Slip Stitch Charts:
You will only be using ONE color of yarn per row! One color is used for two rows - an odd, then an even numbered row. Then you will change to the other color. Read the chart from right to left starting at the lower right-hand corner. On odd rows knit the squares that are the same color (dark or light) as you are working for that row, and slip the other stitches with the yarn in back. Repeat for the even rows, purling, and holding the yarn in front - all slipped stitches are worked as if to purl, with the yarn always held so that the stranded length willbe on the "wrong side" of your piece. Only the Odd Numbered Rows are charted. On the even rows after the border stitches, purl (and slip) the same stitches as the row below -just read your knitting, and purl the same color and slip the "other" color. For those of you who are knitting at the 4.4 sts per inch gauge, you willonly work the first 23 squares of the chart. At 5 sts per inch, work the entire 29 squares. For our square, BEGIN WITH THE CHART with the DARK YARN and work all Odd numbered rows as follows (includes the garter stitch border): Slip 1, take yarn to the back, pick up other color yarn (do not break the old color) k3, work chart, k4 On Even numbered rows: Slip 1, k3, work chart, knit 4 Repeat the 24 rows of the chart until piece measures $6\,\%^{\prime\prime}$ from cast on edge and ending after working an even numbered row. Next row: Slip 1, take yarn to the back, pick up light colored yarn, knit to the end of the row. Next row: Slip 1, knit to the end of the row, break light colored yarn. Next row: Slip 1, take yarn to the back, pick up dark colored yarn, knit to the end of the row. Next row: Slip 1, knit to the end of the row. Bind off.
