The problem with fall sports is always how cold it gets at night, so here's a thick and toasty hat to keep you warm. The stranded colorwork add thickness and warmth to this simple hat.

Size

Women's medium.

Materials

Yarn Cascade 220 Superwash, 1 skein White (MC) 0.5 skein Blue (CC) 220yd/100g ; or comparable worsted weight yarn

Recommended needle size

1 16" size 5 circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge 5 DPN size 5 or size needed to obtain gauge Notions Tapestry needle stitch markers stitch holder or spare DPN

GAUGE

7 stitches = 1" in stockinette stitch Skills Some experience with stranded knitting, chart reading, and knitting in the round.

Abbreviations

K2 tog: knit two stitches together P2 tog: purl two stitches together EOR: end of round CO: cast on MC: main color CC: contrasting color K: knit P: purl Using circular needle, CO 110 sts in MC and join in the round, being careful not to twist. Work in K2 P2 ribbing for 3 inches. Work two rounds in stockinette stitch.

Chart

Begin colorwork chart. Repeat the pattern 5 times on each round, placing stitch markers in between each repeat.

Crown Shaping

Row 1: In MC, \*Knit to 2 stitches before stitch maker, K2 tog. Repeat from \* to EOR. 11 stitches decreased. (99 stitches remaining) Row 2: Knit in MC Row 3: In CC, \*Knit to 2 stitches before stitch maker, K2 tog. Repeat from \* to EOR Row 4: Knit in CC Repeat until 22 stitches remain. K2tog to EOR Cut yarn leaving 12”' tail each. Pull yarn through remaining stitches and weave in ends.
