Love, Lexylu

Okay...does anyone else remember the EG, Love Eric sock craze of the very early 90s? I was in elementary school and they were all the rage. However, they were \$20 a pair...in 1991! And they were cotton, thus, not very warm. Here is my homage in wool to that great sock.
Materials:
Bemidji Woolen Mills Original Homespun (DK weight yarn, about 400 yds) 1 set US #1 and #2 straight needles (if you want them really slouchy, try #3s) Or Worsted weight 1 set Us #0 and #1-1.5 straight needles (this is for the foot and it depends on how big your foot it and how loosely youknit)
Gauge:
There is no real gauge but the sock part should be knit somewhat loosely to make sure you have adequate slouch. If you know you are a very tight knitter, you might want to try the size #3 option for DK or just make it with worsted weight. I am typically a loose knitter and size #2s created the desired effect for me. The DK instructions create a snug, ladies size 7 sock. ou are knitting for larger feet the worsted weight option would probably work best Roughly 28 sts across = 4 "
Abbreviations:
k- knit p-purl PM - place maker/ M- marker k2tog- knit two together Ssk- slip, slip, knit slipped stitches tog. Pu/k - pick up and knit S- slip Version 2 tbl- through the back loop
Cuff:
With #1s (#0s for worsted), cast on 64 with your preferred cast on (l used long tail cast on) Join into circle (careful not to twist and passing the two outside stitches over each other to form a lock) K2, p2 across all sts. Work in this ribbing for 5 cm Sock: Switch to #2s (or #3s for super slouchy w/ DK, or #1-1.5 for worsted). Row 1: K2, p2 Row2:K Repeat until sock + cuff measures: 24 cm Switch down to smaller needles, and work Rows 1-2 twice. (Do not skip this step!)
Heel:
Switch back to larger needles. The regular EG heel was plain knit. So you can knit it plain or use this heel which I like on my boot socks since I think it makes them cushy. You can add reinforcement yarn if you want it. Heel is worked across 32 sts. RS: S1 \* K1, S1 \* K1 WS:S1,p31 Repeat until heel flap measures 2.25 -2.5" ca. 14 times making 15 slipped sts) Ending on at the end of a WS row Turnheel: RS: k17, ssk, K1, wrap, turn Ws: SI 1, p3, p2tog, p1, turn . Row 2 [RS]: K to within 2 sts of the wrap/hole, ssk, k1, wrap, turn. \*Continue to work to within 2 sts of gap, decrease, & knit or purl one more untilall sts have been worked. Gusset: On last heel turn row, work across, place marker (PM) at the end, and cut reinforcement yarn. Working up the side of the heel/gusset, pu/k 15 sts tbl, PM, K across the 32 instep sts in pattern, PM, pu/k 15 sts tbl. and pick up either side of stitch between instep and side and work together as 1 s Round 1: Work one round plain on all new stitches. Round 2: Work to 3 sts away from the end of right gusset marker, k2tog, k1 ; knit across instep past next marker; k1, ssk at the beginning of left gusset side., K to end of round. Continue these two rounds until only 64 sts remain (or until comfortable) Foot: Continue knitting plain until exactly 2" below the toe. Shape toe: (You can shape the toe like this or use whatever toe you like) Add reinforcement yarn if you want it. Place the toe where you want it to be and divide stitches into 2 sets. Version 2 Work 1 decrease round, then knit 4 rows plain. \*Work 1 decrease round, then knit 2 rows plain\* 2 x \*Work 1 decrease round, then knit 1 row plain\* 2 x Decrease every round until 12 sts remain on each side (or desired number).
Finishing:
Put onto 2 dpns; with 3rd, passinside st over outside st on each end (this helps round the toes) Kitchener up toes to finish. Copyright 2007.
