Gauge:
32 stitches and 46 rows make a square of 10x10 cm (4x4 inches).
Pattern notes:
The pattern has 3 variations: - Fingerless gloves. - Convertible mittens (hooded). - Mittens. Some parts of the directions are the same for the 3 of them, the parts that are different have a heading indicating so. Increases: Make increases as follows: knit through back and front loops of next stitch. In the charts the first stitch is shown as a normal stitch and the second one with a + symbol. Knit or purl as indicated. Directions between asterisks (\*) should be repeated as many times as indicated. Both odd and even numbered rows are shown in the charts, most odd numbered rows don't have relevant information, but some do, so pay attention. All rows should be read from right to left.
Convertible mittens ribbed band (make 2):
Using a set of straight needles cast on 30 stitches. Row 1: \*k2, p2\*, repeat until 2 stitches remain, k2. Row 2: \*p2, k2\*, repeat until 2 stitches remain, p2. Repeat last 2 rows until the band measures 2 cm (0.75 inches), end with an odd numbered row. Next row: k2tg, p2, \*k2, p2\*, repeat until 2 stitches remain, k2tg. Slip all stitches to a stitch holder or to a piece of scrap yarn (or leave them on this needle if you are not going to need it) .

Cuff
Using a tubular cast on, cast on 66 stitches. Don't join to work in the round. First row: knit knit stitches and slip purl stitches purlwise. Repeat last row once more.

Left hand:
Arrange your stitches as follows: needle 1 and needle 2: 14 stitches each; needle 3 and needle 4: 19 stitches each. Join to start working in the round. Rows 1-26: Needles 1 and 2: work stitches following chart 1. Needles 3 and 4: work stitches following chart 2. Row 27 and all odd numbered rows: Needles 1 and 2: k all stitches. Needles 3 and 4: follow chart 3. Row 28: k until 2 stitches to end of needle 2, place marker, m1, k to end of needle 2. Needles 3 and 4: follow chart 3. Fingerless gloves:
Row 76: k to the end of needle 2, k3, k2tg, \*k4, k2tg\* 5 times, k3. (60 stitches) Row 77: \*k2, p2\*, repeat to end. Repeat last row until you reach desired length. Bind off all stitches loosely.
Convertible mitten:
Slip all stitches from needles 1 and 2 to a stitch holder or a piece of scrap yarn. Transfer the stitches of the ribbing band to needles 1 and 2 Row 71: Needle 1 and 2: k all stitches. Needle 3 and 4: follow chart 3. Repeat row 71 42 more times. Go to row 114 of mitten directions.
Mitten:
Row 114: k1, ssk, k to 3 stitches to end of needle 2, k2tg, k1. Needles 3 and 4: follow chart 3. Row 115: k1, ssk, ssk, k to 5 stitches to end of needle 2, k2tg, k2tg, k1. Needles 3 and 4: follow chart 3. Repeat row 115 twice more. (28 stitches) Cut yarn leaving a tail of about 20 inches.
Grafting:
Divide your stitches between 2 needles and graft them together.
Convertible mitten:
Divide the palm stitches you had left on hold between 2 needles, pick up 28 stitches on the inner side of the mitten following the line that corresponds with row 7o. Divide those stitches between 2 needles. Join yarn. Row 1: k to end. Row 2: \*k2, p2\*, repeat to end. Repeat last row until piece measures 2.5 cm (1 inch) or you have reached desired length. Bind off loosely.

Right hand:
Arrange your stitches as follows: needle 1 and needle 2: 19 stitches each; needle 3 and needle 4: 14 stitches each. Join to start working in the round. Rows 1-26: Needles 1 and 2: work stitches following chart 2. Needles 3 and 4: work stitches following chart 1. Row 27 and all odd numbered rows: Needles 1 and 2: follow chart 3. (20 stitches) Row 1: k13, ssk, k3, k2tg. (18 stitches) Row 2: k13, ssk, k1, k2tg. (16 stitches) Row 3: k to end.
Fingerless gloves:
Row 4: \*k1, p1\*, repeat to end. Repeat last row until thumb measures 2.5 cm (1 inch), or until you reach desired length, bind off all stitches loosely.
Mittens and convertible mittens:
Repeat row 3 until thumb measures 4 cm (1.6 inches) or until you are 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) short of desired length. Next row: \*k2tg, k2\*, repeat to end. (12 stitches) Next row: knit all stitches. Next row: k2tg, k4, k2tg, k4. (10 stitches) Divide remaining stitches between 2 needles and graft the tip together.
Finishing:
Convertible mitten: Sew the sides of the ribbed band to the sides of the palm. All: weave in all ends.
