ImmortalFlame: Anaghansquare patermhyMean Dodon
I joined an afghan square swap but before I got around to fulfilling my end of the swap, I knitted a couple of stroller blankets from a friend's pattern, Baby Chalice Blanket by Lykkefanten (available on Ravelry). 1 fell in love with the chalice lace stitch that she used in her blanket and got her permission to post this square pattern I devised, based on the stitch. After baker's dozen of squares plus completing both of the blankets, I'm still not tired of this stitch!

Once you get the hang of how the lace stitches lay out,it gets easy to just go by memory and read the knitting to see where you are. The square is knitted from top down so when finished, turn it around to see it as shown. I named this Immortal Flame as it reminds me of the Olympic torch! Yarn: approx 100 yds of worsted weight Techniques used: k2tog, stbl,yo,psso, sl, Gauge: 7 stitches/1" over st st blocking Needle: size 10 Finished Size: 12"x12" (must block to this dimension) Cast on 49 stitches. Tip: Use a provisional cast-on. If you find that your square is too short, you can add extra garter rows to top and bottom. Knit 5 rows. The k3 at the beginning and ends of the rows make up the sides of garter stitch border for the square. Row 1: k3, k2, yo, k1, stbl, k3, k2tog, k1, \*yo, k1, yo, k1, stbl, k3, k2tog, k1; repeat \* to last 5 stitches, yo, k2, k3 Row 2 and all even rows: k3, p 43, k3 Row 3: k3, k3, \*yo, k1, stbl, k1, k2tog, k1, yo, k3;repeat \* to last 3 stitches, k3 Row 5: k3, k4, yo, k1, sl1, k2tog, psso, k1, yo, $^{\star}\mathsf{k}5$ , yo, k1, sl 1, k2tog, psso, k1, yo; repeat \* to last 7 stitches, k4, k3 Row7:k3, k2, k2tog,k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, stbl, $^{\star}\mathsf{k}\,^{\star}$ , k2tog, k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, stbl; repeat \* to last 5 stitches, k2, k3 Row 9: k3, k1, k2tog,k2, yo, k3, yo,k2, \*sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, k3, yo, k2; repeat \* to last 6 stitches, stbl, k1, k3 Row 11: k3, k3, \*k2tog, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, stbl, k3; repeat \* to last3 stitches, k3 Row 13: k3, k2,k2tog, k1, yo,k3, yo, k1, stbl, \*k1, k2tog, k1, yo, k3, yo, k1, stbl; repeat \* to last 5 stitches, k2, k3 Row 15: k5, k1, k2tog, k1, yo, k5, yo, k1, \*sl1, k2tog, psso, k1, yo, k5, yo, k1; repeat \* to last 6 stitches, stbl, k1, k3 Row 17: k3, k3, \*yo, k1, stbl, k1, k2tog, k1, yo, k3; repeat \* to last 5 stitches, k3 Row 19: k3, k3, \*yo, k2, sl1, k2tog, psso, k2, yo, k3; repeat \* to last 3 stitches, k3 Row 20: work as same as Row 2 Repeat rows 1-20 2x for a total of 3 pattern repeats. Knit 5 rows. Bind off. I prefer stretchy bind off as seen here: http:/www.knittingdaily.com/blogs/daily/archive/2008/07/30/a-stretchier-bind-off.aspx The square may look a little short vertically but this lace pattern has a lot of ease. Block in your preferred method appropriate to the yarn used to the final dimensions of 12"x12".
