ARGOS PANOPTES was a mythological, hundred-eyed giant. When Argos was slain, Hera immortalized him by placing his hundred eyes on the tail of her sacred peacock. Size: TBD by Knitter (at least 40" across top) Materials: 1 skein KnitPicks Chroma Galapagos for background 396yds 1 ball KnitPiclks Palette Spruce 50 g (231 yds) 1 ball KnitPicks Palette Majestic50 g (231 yds)\*\* \*\* Any fingering-weight yarn will do One long #9 circular needle Stitch markers Abbreviations: K = Knit P =Purl M1 = Make a st in st just knitted by knitting in the front of the stitch and then knitting again in the back: Instructions: With color A, CO 4 stitches. K 6 rows garter. After 6th row, don't turn; pick up 4 stitches down long side of garter rectangle, and pick up 4 more stitches on CO edge for a total of 12 stitches on the needle. Turn. K4, P4, K4 (Begin and end every row with K4 for garter edge—not shown in chart) Turn. K4, (K1, M1) 4 times, K4 (16 sts) Turn. K4, P 8, K4. Turn. ROW 1 of CHART A: Add Color B, and using both colors per chart, K4, (K1, K1,M1) Place marker. (K1, K1,M1) Place marker, (K1, K1,M1) Place marker, (K1, K1,M1) , K4. (20sts) Purl second row, and every even-numbered row. Continue following CHART A to desired length. Switch to purple as indicated. Note that 2 rows (71 and 72) require working 3 strands in each row. You may be doing more rows than the chart shows, as the chart knitted and blocked makes a shawl only about 42” across the top. Each chart wedge is repeated 4 times with a 4-stitch garter edge on each side. Finishing: Tie and weave in or trim all color change ends. Wash and block flat.
