NOTES & TECHNIQUES

The finished mitt is stretchy and can accommodate a larger hand size. To make the mitt larger, you can cast on additional stitches in increments of 3, and to make it longer, simply work more repeats of the Boxwood Pattern. Beg: beginning CO: cast on Cont:continue DPN(s): double pointed needle(s) K: knit K2tog: knit 2 together Ml: make 1: insert tip of left-hand needle under the strand between stitches, from front to back. Knit through the back of the loop. P: purl Pm: place marker Rep(s): repeat(s) Rnd(s): round(s) Sk2p: slip 1, knit 2 together, pass slip stitch over the knit 2 together Sm: slip marker Boxwood Pattern Rnds 1, 2, & 3: K2, p1 Rnd 4: Purl.

CO 54 sts and distribute as evenly as possible on dpns. Join for working in the round, taking care not to twist stitches. Place marker at beg of rnd. Work 12 rnds of kl, pl ribbing. Change to Boxwood Pattern and work 5 full reps of pattern: 20 rnds completed. Rnd 21 (beg thumb gusset): Ml, Ml, pm, work Rnd 1 of pattern. Rnd 22: K to marker, sm, work Rnd 2 of pattern. Rnd 23: K to marker, sm, work Rnd 3 of pattern. Rnd 24: Ml, k to marker, M1, sm, work Rnd 4 of pattern. Continue to work Boxwood Pattern and at the same time, work increases on thumb gusset every 3rd rnd until you have l6 sts on the thumb gusset and 42 rnds completed. Rnd 43:Place 16 thumb stitches on waste yarn, remove marker and CO 3 sts. Work Rnd 3 of pattern.
