The nutty berry stitch is an easy yet mesmerizing pattern that not only has color contrast, but an interesting textural appeal as well, little knots resembling berries on the branch. A great way to use up single skeins! The berries may look like bubbles, and as if it's stranded knitting. but it's one yarn color at the time ...anyone can do it!

BERRY PATTERN 1
Row 1: With B,\*k1 without slipping the stitch off the left needle, YO, k1 in same stitch. SL wyif \*, repeat until end of row. Row 2(Ws): \* SL wyib, k3tog repeat until end of row. Row 3-5: In A, work in stockinette.
BERRY PATTERN 2:
Row 1: With C,\*k1 without slipping the stitch off the left needle, YO, k1 in same stitch, SL wyif,\*, repeat until end of row. Row 2(Ws): \* SL wyib, k3tog\* repeat until end of row. Row 3-4: In B, work in stockinette. Row 5: In C, work in stockinette. Row 6-7: With B, work in stockinette.
Knit your gauge swatch first:
Although gauge is not crucial, you do want your hat to end up the right size...
Pattern:
RIBBING:
With yarn A, CO 82[90.98] stitches with smaller needle. Connect in the round, careful not to twist. Knit 24 rows or your desired length in 2/2 rib.
MAIN:
Change to big needle and knit in stockinette for 12 rows. Start Berry pattern 1 with B. Repeat Berry pattern 5 times. With B: knit 3 rounds stockinette. Start Berry pattern 2, repeat 2 times, end with Berry pattern 2 rows 1-4. Decrease: add one row of stockinette in B, decreasing 1 in 6 stitches, 67175.83l st. remaining. Change to D. Knit 4 rows in stockinette, decreasing 1 in 5 stitches in 3d row. 52[60.68] st. remaining. In one color only. knit Berry Pattern 1 3 times. Knit the following decrease rows every 4th row (that his. between the berries): Decrease 1 in 4 stitches, 3 rows stockinette, decrease 1 in 3 stitches, 3 rows stockinette, decrease 1 in 2 stitches, 3rowsstockinette. Last decrease row: \*K2tog\*, repeat until end of round. Cut off the yarn at 1o inches and thread through the remaining stitches. Pull tight and secure.
