Winter Hat
free pattern designed by Blanca Grunbaum This is a versatile hat which can be worn on both sides. It is thick, very warm, and great for the coldest days of winter. Constructed with double knitting technique and made with a bulky yarn - it is a wonderful holiday gift.

MATERIALS
Knit Picks wool of the Andes 100% superwash wool, bulky weigth (100g/137yds): # 26518, 1 hank of red for MC, #26521,1 hank of solstice Hthr. For CC. Size 101/4 (6.5mm) 16" circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge Size 10 1%2 (6.5mm) 5 double point needle, orsize neededto obtain gauge Stitch markers yarn needle waste yarn
GAUGE
5 sts and 9 rows = 2"
NOTE
This hat is using the invisible double knitting cast on technique. Whenpurling with CC make a loose purl stitch so end up streched in legth,and that helps for the contrast hem detail on right side.

HAT
Using circular ndl CO 44 sts, leaving a tail. Rnd 1-24: Pm and join for working in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts, begin working in knitting with MC, and purling with CC, as you go. Cont working in rounds until 24 rounds are complete.
DECREASES
As you are working decreases, switch to dpn and set up decreasing round asfollow: Rnd 25 (dec): dk to 2 dk sts before marker [k2tog with MC, p2tog with CCtonextm]3times.4sts decreased over round.
Rnd 26: knit
Next nds: Rep dec rnds 25 and 26 until 4 dk sts rem for each color. Place them separately on waste yarn. Break two colors of yarn and pull both sides separating them in opposite direction,then sew both ends with a respective working yarn tail.
