Gusset
Knit 10 stitches to middle of row. With new needle, knit the 10 remaining stitches. Continue using the same needle and pick up 14 stitches down the side of the heel flap. With new needles, knit across the instep, using the following Set-Up Rnd 9: Set-Up Rnd 9: K2togtbl, p2, k2, p1, T3B, p2, k2, p2, k1tbl, (add a new needle), k1tbl, p2, k2, p2, T3F, p1, k2, p2, k2togtbl: Using a new needle, pick up 14 stitches up other side of the heel flap and knit across the first 10 stitches from heel. (Needle 1 - 24 sts, needle 2 - 16 sts, needle 3 - 16 sts, needle 4 - 24 sts.) The middle of the heel (between needle 4 and needle 1 is now the beg of rnd. Rnd 10: Knit to 3 sts from end of needle, k2tog, k1, follow Chart A - Rnd 10 across the instep sts only, knit 1, ssk, knit to end of rnd. Rnd 11: K to end of needle, follow Chart A - Rnd 11 across instep only, k to end of rnd. Continue deleting sts at the gusset every other round and progressing through the instep pattern, as established, until there are 64 sts, total. Foot Continue inpattern $2^{\prime\prime}$ or more from desired length of sock. The toe shaping will be $2^{\prime\prime}$ long, and for balance it is best to end on a Rnd 8. To have this occur, it may mean ending the pattern and continuing with some rounds of stockinette stitch only for a few rounds before decreasing at the toe.
Toe Decreases
Remove marker from heel. Rnd 1: K16, place right side marker, k32 across instep, place left side marker, k32 to right side marker. (This is the new beg of rnd.) Rnd 2: K1, ssk, k to 3 sts from left side marker, k2tog, k1, k1, ssk, k to 3 sts from right side marker, k2tog, k1. Rnd 3: Knit. Repeat Rnds 2 and 3 until 16 sts remain. Arrange stitches so that 8 stitches are on one needle and 8 stitches on another. Cut yarn, leaving $12^{\prime\prime}$ tail. Close toe using Kitchener stitch. Weave in ends.
The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost
