Materials
Approx. 430 yards (400 m.) fingering weight/sock yarn - yarn used is Cascade Yarns "Heritage Hand Painted Sock Yarn", (437 yds/400 m; 75% Merino Superwash, 25% Nylon), 1 skein color 9926 One US size 4 or 5 (3.5 - 3.75 mm) circular needle, 24" - 32". Shawl
Center Tab
CO 2 sts; knit 6 rows garter stitch. Without turning work after last row, use right needle tip to pick up and knit 3 sts in the garter "bumps" along the left-hand side of the tab. Now pick up and knit 2 sts along the cast on edge. (7 sts) (Outer edges, and center stitch are always knit - garter stitch.) Row 1 (Rs): K2, yo, (k1, yo) 3 times, k2. (11sts) Row 2 (ws): K2, pm, yo, p3, k1 (center stitch), pm, p3, y0, pm, k2. (13 sts)
Stockinette Pattern:
Row 3: K2, sm, yo, k to marker, yo, sm, k1, yo, knit to last marker, yo, sm, k2. (17 sts) Row 4: K2, sm, yo, purl to center stitch (stitch before marker), k1, sm, purl to last marker, yo, sm, k2. (19 sts.) Rep Rows 3 and 4 (keeping the two edge stitches in garter stitch, and increasing 4 stitches on each RS row and 2 stitches on each WS row) until there are 161 total sts on needle, with ws facing for next row.
Garter Channel
Row A (ws): K2, sm, yo, knit across all sts to last marker, yo, sm, k2. Row B: K2, sm, yo, k1, yo, \*k2tog, yo; rep from \* to center marker, sm, k1, yo, \*k2tog, yo; rep from \* to last one st before last marker, k1, yo, sm, k2. Row C: Rep Row A. \*\*\* Continue in Stockinette Pattern for 13 rows, ending with ws facing for next row. Now work the three Garter Channel rows. Repeat from \*\*\* two more times - there will now be 4 Garter Channels.
