Version 2 - Cuff Down, Gusset/Heel Flap Construction By: Sarah Bordelon (SarahBess on Rav) I'm a Southern girl, and one of the coolest things about Southern men is their ability to wear a seersucker suit. Summertime in New Orleans can be pretty hot, and seersucker is a staple of our wardrobes down here. In my family, we all have some to try and keep cool, and fashionable, in theheatand humidity!

Sizes

Small (Medium, Large) will fit an approximately 8"(9", 10") foot

Abbreviations

K -Knit p-Purl m1 - Make one increase SI - Slip as if to purl K2tog - Knit two stitches together ssk - slip, slip, knit p2tog - purl two stitches together st(s) - Stitch(es)

Chart

8.5 sts & 12 rows/inch in stockinette

Cuff

Cast on 64 (72, 80) stitches. Join in round, being careful not to twist. Work 16 rounds of K1, p1 ribing.

Leg

Begin working chart 16 (18, 20) times around the leg. Repeat Chart a minimum of 6 times (48 rounds).

Heel Flap

Set-up Row - Work first stitch in pattern and slip to last needle; it will now be the last stitch of the instep. Work next 31 (35, 39) stitches in the pattern as established, turn. These 31 (35, 39) stitches are the heel. Hold the remaining 33 (37, 41) stitches for the instep. Row 1 - Sl1, p to the end of the heel, turn. Row 2 - Sl1, (K1, p1) to last 2 stitches, K2, turn. Repeat last two rows 14 (16, 18) times then Row 1 once more. There should be 16 (18, 20) chain stitches on each side of the heel flap.

Heel Turn

Row 1 - K 18 (20, 22), ssk, K1, turn. Row 2 - Sl1, p 4 (6, 8), p2tog, p1, turn. Row 3 - Sl1, K to 1 stitch before the gap, ssk, K1, turn. Row 4 - Sl1, P to 1 stitch before the gap, p2tog, p1, turn. Repeat last two rows until all heel stitches have been worked and 19 (21, 23) stitches remain.

Gusset

Set Up Round - Sl1, K 10, PM (Beginning of Round), K 9 (10, 11), pick up and knit 16 (18, 20) stitches from right side of heel flap, work instep in pattern, pick up and knit 16 (18, 20) stitches from left side of heel flap, knit to end of round. Round 1 - Knit to 3 stitches before end of sole stitches, k2tog, K1 - Work instep in pattern as established - K1, ssk, K to end of round. Round 2 - Knit to end of sole - Work instep in pattern as established - K to end of round. Repeat last two rounds until 64 (72, 80) stitches remain - 31 (35, 39) sole stitches and 33 (37, 41) instep stitches.

Foot

Work even (knitting all sole stitches and working instep in pattern as established) until foot is 2 (2, 2.25)" less than the desired length.

Toe

Set-up Round - K to beginning of instep stitches - K1, ssk, K to last three instep stitches, K2tog, K1 - K to end of round - 62 (70, 78) stitches remain, 31 (35, 39) for each of the sole and instep. Round 1 - Knit all stitches Round 2 - Knit to 3 stitches before the end of the sole, K2tog, K2, ssk, K to 3 stitches before the end of the instep, K2tog, K2, ssk, knit to end of round. Repeat last two rounds until 34 (38, 42) stitches remain. Repeat Round 1.

Work Round 2 until 18 (22, 26) stitches remain. Knit to end of sole stitches. Use Kitchener Stitch to graft toe closed. Weave in your ends and repeat the whole shebang for your second sock.
