WHImSYCOWL
Whimsically leaning this way and that, this simple cowl can adapt to your whims. Suits any yardage of fingering to aran weight. Wear it as a long loop, or doubled round the neck for warmth, or adapt it to make a narrow cowl in a heavier weight. Cast on any multiple of 22 sts (110 or more is recommended unless using a very bulky yarn), and keep going until you have just enough left to bind off. ldeal for gradients or striping yarns. Both samples were knit on interchangeable 60cm cable needles, casting on and binding off with larger size to allow the edging to form waves, then changing needle tips for the body of the cowl. Bind off on any row. Block flat, lining the edges up to allow the points of both sides to be pinned doubled up. If wishing to make a more upright narrow cowl it is advisable to make a small swatch to check that fabric and tension is to your liking.

Notes
In the fingering weight sample 220 sts were cast on with 5mm needles, followed by 12 repeats of chart on 4mm needles, BO with 5mm. In the DK weight 220 sts were cast on with 5mm needles, 11 repeats worked on 4mm needles, and BO with 5mm needles. X Casting on and binding off in larger needles helps form the rippled edges and deters rolling. Blocking also helps. If using fixed circulars instead of interchangeables, transfer to smaller size after casting on, and return to larger set for BO.
