Materials:
3 skeins of Lion Brand Wool: Black, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Scrap of contrast wool (dyed tangerine) Circular knitting needles size 5, Double pointed needles size 5, Large eyed needle for sewing in ends. Gauge: 4 st per inch.
Using a provisional cast on and black, cast on 80 st.
Continue in stockinette st for four more rows.(for deeper herm add more rows here). Next row: K 1, K 2 tog., K 78, K 2 tog., K1. Next row: purl across 80 sts. Now place provisional sts onto needle as follows: Sl 1 st from LHN, sl 1 st from COE (cast on edge), repeat until all sts have been placed on needle. Now working in the round and using black Knit one round.
Begin Chart:
Change to Light Grey and Dark Grey. Work hat in stockinette stitch following chart. There are 8 repeats of each tooth around and 5 repeats between hem and crown. Decrease for crown: $\circledcirc$ After $5^{\mathrm{th}}$ repeat begin d. (see photo): ecreases as follows Keeping in the pattern established, place decrease before the pair of contrasting sts. First Dec rw: Decrease 10 sts ( one dec per repeat). Next row: knit even following chart. Repeat these two rows until 16 st remain. Finisheing:
