Abigail Brimmed crochet hat
Worsted weight yarn, in Main Colour (MC) and Contrasting Colour (cC) -I recommend an acrylic for this hat so that it maintains stiffness and shape. Should you choose to use natural fibers, blocking may be necessary. H (8/5mm) hook
Notes:
All notations used are in US terminology. Hat is worked in rounds, with each row joined with a slip stitch. I begin every row with a ch 1 to achieve the height required for the sc. Two choices of brim are available, along with a hat band option. If you choose to not attach the hat band, it becomes a lovely headband! Sizing chart: When measuring to achieve size, lay work flat and measure across the widest point. Please note sizes are approximate, and all babies can have different sizing requirements. Special instructions: TBL - through back loop TFL - through front loop

Brims
Ruffle brim: 1. Working TFL only, sc 2 st in each st around, sl st to join. 2. (Sc, 2 sc in next st) around, sl st to join. 3. (Sc in next two st, 2 sc in next st) around, sl st to join. Finish off.
Straight brim:
Having taken note of number of stitches between increases of the last increase row of the hat, continue working in this manner. 1. Working TFL only, sc one more than the number of stitches from the last inc row. 2 sc in next sc, repeat for round. 2. Continue increasing in this manner for 4 more rounds, working through both loops. Sl 4 stitches prior to working each row to minimize hexagonal shaping. Finish off.
Band, with CC
Ch 5. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Sc each row until band is large enough to wrap around hat snuggly, but not tight. DO NOT JOIN, finish off, leaving tail double the circumference of the hat (should you choose to sew it to the hat) for sewing. @ Under A Fey Moon, Christine Doyle, 2012.
Flower

Ch 5, sl st on wrong side to the stitch on the opposite side of the circle. Working in the same direction, sl 1 st, ch 5 and sl to first stitch of round. Working TFL, ch 1, (petal made) Repeat < to >for round, sl in first sc of round. 6 petals made. 4. Working TBL of row 2, sl 1"t st to begin at center of petal. for remainder of round, making 6 petals behind the prior rounds petals. Sl st to join. Finish off. Weave in ends. Thread band through the back straps of the flower and sew band closed, being careful to not twist. Attach band to hat.
