There are several options for this sock. You can use worsted weight or fingering weight for the adult version. The child's version follows the worsted weight directions but uses the smaller needles and finer yarn or you can substitute sport weight and Us 2 needles. You can wrap the banded the stitches as you knit the sock or using a contrasting colour, after you knit the entire sock in K2, P2 embroider according to the chart. Wrapping stitches: With yarn in back slip sts to be wrapped onto a cable needle. Wrap the yarn around these stitches, left (behind) to right (in front), twice return to left needle. Continue in ribbing pattern, knit the wrapped sts (k2, p2, k2)

Heel
Linen Stitch Heel Worked over 24 (24, 32) sts Row 1 (Wrong Side): S1, P1, \*with yarn in back S1, P1, \*repeat til end of row Row 2: S1, K1, \*with yarn in front S1, K1, \* repeat til end of row
Turn Heel
Slip 1, k12[12,16], ssk, k1, turn. Slip 1, p3, p2tog, p1, turn. Slip 1, k to within one stitch of gap, ssk to close gap, k1, turn. Slip 1, p to within one stitch of gap, p2tog, p1, turn. Repeat last two rows until all stitches have been worked. 14[14,18] heel stitches remain. Slip 1, k 6[6,8] stitches to center of heel.
GUSSET
Set-Up Round: Using Needle 1, pick up and k 14(14,18) sts (1 st in each slipped st, if you added rows you will need to pick up more) along adjacent edge of heel flap; work all sts on Needle 1 according to pattern; pick up and k 14(14,18) sts (1 st in each slipped st) along remaining edge of heel flap, k to end of Needle 2. This point (center of heel) will now be beginning of round, PM. Round 1: K all sts on Needle 1 according to pattern; k sts on Needle 2 Round $2:\mathsf{K}$ to last 3 sts on Needle 2, k2tog, k2; work sts on Needle 1 according to pattern ; k1, ssk, k to end of round. Repeat these 2 rounds until 64 sts remain: 32 on each needle
FOOT
Working leg pattern across instep sts, work sole in stockinette stitch until foot measures 2 inches less than desired length to end of toe. Read notes on chart for instep!
TOE
K 3 rounds. Decrease Round: K to last 3 sts on Needle 2, k2tog, k1; k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts on Needle 1, k2tog, k1; Needle 1 k1, ssk. 4 sts have been decreased. K 1 round. Repeat the decrease round every other row 4 times. Then every row til 8 sts remain on each needle. Break yarn, leaving an 8-inch tail. Kitchner toe closed and weave in ends. Repeat for Second sock.
Chart
Yellow indicates which sts are to be wrapped together. The leg has sets of 6 sts wrapped together. For continuity you will need to reorient on your needles row 8, 18 and 28 so the last 4 sts are wrapped with the first 2 sts of each row. (chart is read from top down) On instep only 2 and 4 sts will be wrapped to maintain stockinette sole and smocked instep.
