Exploring Stripes by Holly Webb
This patten originally appeared in the "News and Views" section of the Winter 02/03 issue of Interweave Knits (pg. 8). In the Winter 01/02 issue, Knits had announced a call for reader submissions for "Exploring Stripes" projects, and I made this bag in response. The original bag was made with KPPM shade P501D, a mottled olive-greenish color and copper-colored beads. Since that first bag has since, ahem, disappeared somewhere, I knit up a new one for posting this pattern on Ravelry.

Finished Size: About $14\;1/2"$ around and $7\uparrow/4"$ tall. Gauge: 16 sts $=2"$ , in St st worked in the round.
Materials:
1 skein Koigu Painter's Palette Merino Approx. 660 size 6 glass beads Size2 $2.75\;\mathrm{mm}^{\prime}$ needles-a $16"$ circular and a set of dpns
Instructions:
Thread beads onto yarn. With circular needle, cast on 120 stitches. Place marker, and join into a round. First 6 rounds: [Knit 1 round, purl 1 round] 3 times Eyelet round: \*K8, K2tog, yo; repeat from \* Knit 1 round. Work bead pattern as follows: Round13 $^{\star}\mathsf{K}\mathsf{1}$ binftsftsa Rounds 2-7: Knit. Repeat the last 7 rounds 8 more times, then work rounds 1 and 2 again. You willhave 10 beaded rounds completed at this point. Begin decrease rounds as follows: \*K13, K2tog; repeat from $\star_{\star}\mathtt{\mathtt{\&}}$ st decreased. Knit 1 round \*K12, K2tog; repeat from \* Knit 1 round \*K11, K2tog; repeat from \* Knit 1 round Continue in this manner, kniting one less stitch between decreases every other round, and placing beads every 7 rounds as established until 8stitchesremain. Cut yarn, thread tail through remaining stitches, pulltight and fasten off. Weave in ends. I-Cord drawstring: with dpns, work 3-stitch I-cord for $30^{\prime\prime}$ or as long as desired. Thread cord through eyelets.
Some notes:
This pattern isbeautiful withanysmooth sockyarnthatl work tothis gaugeYou'l want thisbag tobe pretty tightly knit. 660 size 6 beads is a little less than 2 24-gram tubes of size 6 beads. A dental floss threader is really handy for threading the beads onto the yarn. The bag pictured here is made with KPPM P419, with cobalt and turquoise colored beads. It can be tricky to bead on a decrease round- one strategy is to just wait to decrease on the following round instead.
